I recently attended a Physical Auction where i had my eye on a BMW 3 series that according to the Autotrader Pricing Tool was coming in nicely on my budget;
Private Sale £7,480
Part Ex £6,340
The Auction was pretty quiet and some of the early stuff seemed to be going through pretty low, so i thought my luck might be in. (i should add, i am a private buyer, i really enjoy the buzz of an auction and in theory at least knowing you are getting the car for the best price - i also like to think i have a pretty good idea what is going on, i often go just to watch).... Thanks for your comments.... basically it's a very shady business, even the large Car Auctions that seem reputable....
Good question on HJ today.
Does getting the FIRST MOT done early affect the due date of the next one or would it be the anniversary of the date of registration. OR is the first MOT if done early dated 3 years to the anniversary date of the reg?... Read more
One of my other cars is having its first MOT on Monday. It's going in a couple of weeks early. I'll be astonished if the expiry is anything other than the anniversary of first registration.
The other car is already showing on the MOT history database. It says:
Date registered 28 June 2016....

Filled up yesterday at my local BP and Nectar has apparently been stopped. Instead was given a BPme awards card. Haven't properly had time to suss, but suspicious that it's another sort of card ( like all of them!) which you make multiple use of and hold on to for years-then find you've only got minimum cash value or a reward I'm unlikely to want.... Still use it at Sainsbury's own fuel stations. Also the Chelmsford one is on my way home and quite often as cheap as Asda or slightly cheaper. They are also currently giving out vouchers for double nectar points next time you buy fuel.
I'd be grateful for the benefit of the collective wisdom, please.
Son's 4 year PCP on 2015 Sandero 1.2 Ambience finishes next month. It will have 40k miles, full dealer s/h, Mot, and one year Dacia warranty left. Balloon payment is £2,400. HJ p/x valuation is £2990 (private sale about £4,000), Dacia p/x valuation is £2880.... Read more
For the consumer lease makes most sense for high value, low depreciation, cars especially ones that the manufacturer is prepared to offer big discount to lease company (which is why it's worth watching special offers on a lease company that handles all makes web site). Many of these lease deals depend on that low depreciation, but often these are luxury cars that would quickly fall out of favour if a big financial shock hit consumers. So yes it is a sub prime failure for many lease companies in the making, just don't buy shares in them.
I have been reading with interest posts relating to problems folk have been experiencing with various VW cars with 1.5 evo engines. I wish I had read this sooner! Anyhow, apologies if this is boring, but I am seeking advice as to what to do next, and am hoping that I will find some help here.
Briefly.... I purchased a brand new Golf in Jan with said engine via a PCP. All was well until May when, at 3000 miles the EPC warning light came on and the car went into limp mode.... Read more
It seems to me that you would be able to reject the car using the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
It is ridiculous that they have had your car for 4 weeks and are trying to give it back to you on a wing and a prayer. It is well documented the problems that consumers have with this engine and this largely helps your case....
Hi all, apologies starting off yet another thread on this. I've seen two previous ones but can't seem to add to them

Anyone come across smoke coming from a Indicator Stalk on a Santa Fe 2 (2006 - 2012)?
It has been reported in the US where vehicles are made in a US factory but wondered if it is isolated to US vehicles and a fault with a supplier there, or affects cars made in Korea also and is more of a design fault.... Read more
All old BMC vehicles used to leak smoke from their electrical systems and when all the smoke had escaped the car would not operate.
Here is a link to a kit that allows owners to replace the smoke and get the car working again....
I run a Ford B Max 1.0 Ecoboost 125PS. Can anyone confirm at what RPM the turbo cuts in. I believe it is 1400rpm but would like confirmation. Read more
The amount of boost (so called "cut-in") is mainly dependant on the load on the engine. More load = more boost.
Exactly so - the turbo has either variable vanes (the VAG method) or a wastegate which diverts some exhaust flow to prevent overspeeding the turbo, allowing it to give more boost at lower engine outputs. ...
