We traveled to Ghent last year for a 2 day break. Lovely city, highly recommended.

The only problem we had was that in recent years the city centre has been declared car-free. On many of the prohibited routes the only indication was a sign in Flemish indicating the restriction. We spent nearly an hour trying to get to our B&B and at one point drove through a restricted road by mistake. Our efforts weren't helped by using an out-of-date Sat Nav....

"...aims to normalise electric car ownership..." - who for? People silly enough to pay almost 30 grand (with a few options like metallic paint) for a Corsa?!

To justify the ridiculously high price of electric cars, some motoring journalists unrealistically state that the lower running costs make-up for the higher purchase price of an electric car, but they're talking complete nonsense - it would take me over a decade to get close to bridging the price gap with an ICE car, even longer if you use these cars as 'city runabouts' like some manufacturers are billing them due to their disappointingly short ranges. And by that time, I'd be looking to replace the battery for probably thousands of pounds too, thus drawing out that price gap catch-up even further!

Electric car technology needs to improve a lot and become more affordable before I'd ever consider one - and more analysis is required on the true environmental impact of electric cars (e.g. manufacture and charging) before people, and especially money-grabbing politicians, regard them as a solution to ICE polution.

was expected, too heavy/thirsty/expensive, some badge snobbery, name and diesel only all didn't help the Edge's sales. Plus only 2 & 3 year Ford finance terms not helping when rivals are offering 2, 3, 4 and 5 year deals. Read more

It is very surprising that build quality has not figured in any comments. Perhaps you should ask the few punters who did buy an Edge.

Confession time - I checked my tyre pressures last weekend for, er... the second time this year. I suspect I am not alone. TPMS seems to do the job quite well (barring a rash of false readings during a couple of cold snaps) and I do check pressures before a long journey, which is maybe three times a year.
In a recent horrific car crash that claimed the life of a sports star and a passenger, it appears that one of the contributory factors being put forward - according to today's official police statements - is a blowout from a tyre that may have been underinflated, on a little-used high performance car that the driver was possibly not very familiar with. The car left the road, hit a site of roadworks and burst into flames.
As the captain used to say on Hill Street Blues - "Let's be careful out there." Read more

I've had a few false alarms in my SEAT Toledo, each time I have checked the pressures, found no fault and re-set the system. I know the alarms are false as the system does not activate again.

IMO the TPMS system is a get-out for proper checks, a lazy driver's rely upon. Would much have preferred a vehicle wide "bulb failure" system to have been stipulated first, stop all the drivers in cars with faulty headlights and side/stop lights driving about in ignorance. (Bulb failure in my dad's Volvo from 25 years ago did correctly indicate a failed stop light bulb).

My son in law recently purchased a Fiat Punto grand 56 reg . He sent off to tax it and the DVLA has told him he can't tax it, its a "random Check"

He has to take the car off the road immediately, can't even park it on the road and since they have no drive or garage this is in itself a big problem... Read more

Thanks! That cheered us up .The DVLA still hasn't acknowledged receiving all the information/photos they asked us email to them; we are hoping when they get round to checking them then everything will sort out, very frustrating that it can't be done in person only via email

This vehicle stopped and wont start, save for running for about 4 seconds and then cutting out.

My local garage charged £250.00 to not find the problem. They seem to think its a ecu problem and sent it off to a company who said they were unable to test this type of ecu but could supply me with a new one for £500+.... Read more

Anyone using a fridge without a second battery? I do not have a 2nd battery fitted but want to use a National Luna Weekender for 10 days in Mabua and Kgalagadi. We have previously managed for 7 days with only a coolerbox and replacing ice regularly. The fridge would only be running while we drive. Are their any repercussions to this setup?

If the fridge is not full, add a couple of 500ml or 1l bottles of water to add some thermal inertia to the lot.

If there's space, we put a couple of bottles of frozen water (ie ice!) in the 12v fridge when going away for a few days - they usually stay frozen for 3 days or so and help keep things cool....
