I had a front wheel slipping problem some time ago when trying to park my caravan on slippy ground. Volvo are a little slow in giving information out. 3 months have gone by with me asking the same question in different ways.
Can anybody help?
In normal operation modes the maximum torque that will be transmitted to the rear wheels is 5%.
In "off road mode" has anybody any idea what the maximum torque that can be transmitted to the rear wheels? I was sold the vehicle as a 4 wheel drive when pulling my caravan for difficult grass field conditions. I am begining to wonder if I have made the right decision? Read more
Hi!
I'm looking to sell my old car, a 2008 Volvo S40 Sport for about £4500. I was wondering how tax works on car sales - I will be selling it privately if it matters. Is there any tax I need to worry about or not? The tax calculator says I've got only £3000 until I'm in the higher tax bracket - which is why I'm wondering about this. Is it something I should keep in mind when selling it? Hoping someone here has a better idea than I do, this is the first car I've sold myself!... Read more
I've taken out the link just in case it's unsafe. I wouldn't have thought it was an advert: it seems almost inconceivable that someone could advertise a tax calculator and not know that if you exchange one asset for another (car for cash) there is no income to be taxed on.
I am looking to get my first van - mid sized panel with limited budget. Been looking at vivaro/trafic/primastar or ford transit custom. The van needs to tow as well. I have had mixed advice so far. What do I need to look out for or avoid - and what is the most reliable optio? TIA Read more
I have already been over this, but just to clarify, the Toyota Proace is a rebadged Dispatch/Scudo/Expert. The Toyota Hiace on the other hand, has absolutely nothing in common with them at all and definately should not be thought of as such. That would be doing a great disservice to the Hiace.
A better and more accurate way to think of the Hiace would be to recall that famous episode of Top Gear, where Clarkson tried, unsuccessfully, to kill a Toyota Hilux pickup. Well the Hiace van is essentially a 2wd Hilux with a van body....
Does anyone know if rear window displays that light up are legal in the UK?

What do people think about the idea?...
Almost a week since we picked up our Yaris, so a quick review based on the first 200 miles or so.
The car replaced a smart forfour 0.9t which we had a year.... Read more
But it's the 1 in a 100 (1,000?) that could save your life, or at least avoid running into the car in front.
I find the only "false" alerts my Astra gives me on the collision warning is when approaching say a roundabout where there are multiply lanes which curve just beforehand. The "eye" sees a stationary car in the next lane....
Hello,
New to the forum and would like to make an introduction with this post...... Read more
Thanks,
However, excitement really doesn't personally factor into the equation (second car I'm long term saving for is an FD RX7)....
Well that's nice to know. A Pity mine (even the average low quotes on the screenscraper websites) went up by 15% (£35) from March 2017.
No claims in that time (or in the 15+ years I've been with my insurer). Perhaps the difference was in high claims (risk) areas that suddenly reduced all those 'crash-for-cash' false claims. My area is a low risk area. Read more
I don't know where you get your information from. I have just had my insurance renewal quote from Direct Line and it is 50 per cent higher than last year. I am 79 years of age, drive 7000 miles a year and have more than 10 years no claims. I tried all the comparison sites and the best offer was still 30 per cent above my last year's premium premium.

Now is the time for government lead on diesel/petrol as if no action is taken there are going to be 1000's job losses in the car industry--New diesels are really clean and efficient and the government should acknowledge that by reducing the tax accordingly
Driving along the A45 just outside of Coventry today when an unmarked BMW 320 estate flashed up with a message “do not overtake” blue and red square lights started to flash. All the traffic slowed and followed this car for 3 miles. The Beemer then pulled off and displayed “thank you” in the rear screen, random!

Had a very similar thing about 2 weeks back on the A130 near Chelmsford. Plain car with red and blue lights flashing in rear window and do not over take sign in rear window driving at 30mph in centre lane. I stayed back as did the person in centre lane, Some smart alex in the outside tried to go past and the car cut infront of him. The car then started zig zagging across all lanes and got slower and more emphasised zig zagging before stopping sideways across the centre lane. The driver was alone and he got out and cleared some buckets and debris from the road, throwing it onto the grass verge at the side of the road. A quick wave to us waiting and he got back in the car and accelerated away quickly.
I have a 2009 Hyundai i30 1.6 diesel.
I commute to work and back about 7 miles each way.
I have previously always fitted GoodYear Efficient grip tyres as they have a good balance of reasonable cost, fuel efficiency and low noise.
However, they don't seem to last as long as I think they should.
Am I better off going for really cheap tyres or something like Michelins that are reputed to last ages.
I certainly don't drive the car hard or fast so high speed cornering grip is not high on my list of requirements.... Read more
Look at good mid range tyres. Uniroyals are often near the top of tests (they win the wet grip part normally) but are typically about 2/3 the oprice of Goodyears. Made by Continental.
Kumho and Hankook are 2 far eastern brands that are now as good as many European brands at lower prices....

The posts/comments are very interesting.
When I had a CR-V I believe I was told the torque that could be transmitted to the rear wheels. It was in the region of 30%. The dealership explained that the torque was limited to a value which was in line with the "strength" of the rear drive train....
