I currently run a car under a PCP scheme. In a few months I will be handing the car back and have decided not to take out another PCP.

I run my own business and have the option of the company leasing a car which I would use for business and personal use.... Read more

A son bought cars personally & then charged his own company 45p per business mile.

If he had bought/leased through his company & then he would have been liable for BIK on the car or car + fuel....

From information I have gained ,Mercedes steering problems with crabbing judder etc, the only limited correction is to have laser diagonal wheel alignment and have different tyres fitted. Suggested tougher side wall, GY runflat All Season. I have researched a fair bit, and this seems to be the best solution. Read more

Forum tolerance
concrete

In view of the recent spat between some members of the forum, I would like to make an appeal for slightly more tolerance when challenging opinions. I am in full favour of any legitimate challenge which sometimes exposes weakness in an opinion ventured. However there are ways and means of doing this without resorting to emotive language or verging on personal insults. In my humble view this forum contains some of the best contributors of any forum I have ever visited, bar non. The level of knowledge and advice is remarkable. However there are always going to be questions that are subjective and therefore will draw differing opinion from contributors. If you have ever served on a committee you will know how one simple question can draw many different answers according to how people perceive the question. Madening though it is, that is how it all works and we need to be able to cope with it. One mans' throw away comment is another mans' insult. There simply needs to be some circumspection and tolerance on both sides and sometimes simply agree to disagree. If we, ostensibly intelligent members of this forum, cannot deal like this amongst ourselves then how are we perceived by prosective new members? I have seen comments that indicate some previous, regular contributors no longer participate because of how attitudes seem to be changing. I for one don't see much of this, but would still appreciate more though going into responses.

Sorry to seem to preach chaps, just the way I feel from the most recent events.... Read more

Skidpan doesn't seem to have read Concrete's admirable sentiments which started this thread. I should also emphasise that John F, however much we may disagree with him, is invariably polite.

If it is a 2007 car the best bet is to turn it off and buy a cheap TomTom or just use Google Maps.

Any 10 year old SatNav system is going to be pretty dated and useless in comparison to what is expected now....

Hi there guys, just a quick one!

I have recently purchased a Mazda 2 Takuya 2010, I have noticed that it has a Bluetooth system, I have researched that it is a Parrot System that came as standard, however mine is missing the Parrot device itself, I have the microphone, the radio controls on the steering and the Bluetooth connection itself, plus the cables connected in the glovebox.

My question is, can I purchase another device to use? When I connect my phone with Bluetooth, I can call someone and talk however I have to control it with my phone and the volume is very low, I'm assuming the volume control is on the Parrot device, I call whilst driving on a regular basis so would love for this to work, if I buy a new device can it be connect back to the original system, if that makes sense.

Thank you guys!

Hi there, this is what I was thinking, my phone still finds the cars Bluetooth and connects to it with no problem, in the glove box there is a wire that splits into 3, for iPhone adapater and aux lead, it's been fitted in the glove box, there is no Parrot handheld device in the car, but I still don't see how it connects without it, could it be possible that it's in the car somewhere I haven't discovered? I have looked and looked and had no luck, it's a brain twister to me!

Thanks for the reply!

Thanks to Skidpan for pointing out my careless error in OP. People who viewed earlier will have found it confusing and perhaps may comment now. I have reposted because meeting my friend at weekend and would like to be more informed.

Hi all

very inexperienced as to car mechanics a relative newcomer to driving in fact, passed 3 year ago at the ripe old age of 40.
Chose a 2006 fiesta for my 1st motor and havent regretted my choice at all. The fiesta ticked all the boxes affordable to insure for 1st time driver, no bad on fuel and cheap enough parts and fun as hell to throw around corners. Sadly with a family of 4 its time to upgrade to something more spacious and this is where i need the help of those more knowlegeble than me.
Im a minimum wage worker so affordability and upkeep is a major factor i cant afford a lemon or to upgrade every few year so my next car will be driven until it dies.... Read more

Since buying may car at 10k - one year old. I had a VW serive package (waste of money). I had persisted on an intermediate oil change between VW long life service. On average its had oil change every 6K with oil to VW spec (Quantum 5w30). I get at trade price so it works out at £18 per bottle (5l).

My attention is know towards the colloing system since it has the same anti freeze mix since new, should I get it changed (mileage 68K). or wait for the cambelt water pump change at circa 85k.... Read more

John's view on oil changes can be debated (and have been); but I've no doubt that what he does suits his cars and the use he puts them to.

The same might be true about tyres for his particular circumstances, but I really would urge anyone reading this thread not to use old tyres unless, as Rob says, their use is very strictly limited. In addition to the issue of grip, or lack of it, an elderly sidewall is going to be more susceptible to blowouts. At higher speeds a blowout could lead to a fatality.

Complete fool.

The one you describe will in due course no doubt receive a posthumous Darwin award, and a small spinney of plastic flowers teddy bears candles and flowers will form a temporary roadside shrine where the award was won, i'm no happier about imbeciles than you are.
