Having read the horror stories about particulate filters, I have at this point resigned myself to avoiding an SUV fitted with a DPF and am looking to purchase a Honda CRV 2.0 petrol 4WD. (4WD will suit my purpose better than a 2WD due to some of the places I park) My budget is around 11.5K. (I am aware that a pre 2010 CRV 2.2iCDTI doesn't have a DPF but I don't want to fork out 10K plus for what is , in effect, an old car.) I started out with quite a good range of choices when I was looking for a diesel such as the Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan X-Trail, Ford Kuga and also a Honda CRV diesel but after reading about the perils of a DPF when journeys are quite short, I decided that I needed to avoid anything with one fitted. This has obviously reduced my options by quite a lot and I'm now going to have to pay the price in fuel costs.

I was just wondering whether I'm being too paranoid about having a 4WD with a DPF or are they actually as bad as they appear to be?... Read more

Halfords claim to be able to clean clogged DPF. I don't know how they do it but if you are looking at a huge bill to replace one then it might be worth checking them out.

Gibbo_Wirral

Remove the insides of the DPF and the first thing you'll get are erroneous readings from the Differenial Pressure Sensor and the car will go into limp mode.

Can anybody tell me if a 57 reg peugeot 207cc 1.6 gt petrol, has a cambelt or a chain? If it's a belt, how often should it be changed or at what mileage? Thanks!! Read more

Just bought a used Peugeot 308 2L Bluehdi Auto reg Nov 2015 with 17000mls on the clock. After 2 days and 20 miles the engine warning light came on with the accompanying message "Engine fault : have the vehicle repaired". I immediately took it back to the Franchised garage I had just bought it from and who had fully serviced it prior to sale and their diagnostics revealed "P058D00 Battery voltage value invalid". From this information and running further tests the garage subsequently advised me : "Found movement in top tensioner - found very noisy; renewed alternator belt and tensioner as per TSB".

Got the car back now and seems OK but what do I know as I'm not car engine savvy. However having to renew alternator belts/tensioners on a car a little over a year old seems a little worrying. Maybe I'm just paranoid but anyone have any thoughts or advice as to whether this is not uncommon much appreciated as I still have a week or two left to return car for replacement if justified. ... Just a thought though, should the Franchised dealer not check for these things automatically before putting the car on their forecourt for re-sale....

Great initiative. I think that the more educational services there are for students, the better. The service assignmentbro.com/uk/university-assignment-help assisted me a lot in my studies, as I did not always cope with all the tasks. When I needed help with my university assignments, I always used this service. Sometimes students really need help, and educational services are very helpful. Read more

With regard to there being more auto than manual Cavaliers surviving my guess is the autos are bought by older people who do fewer miles, tend to keep cars for longer, thus more survive.

I think that is generally true. Most of the Pug 205s which appear for sale are now GTi's. Autos are a good fraction of the rest, usually with 2K or 3K per-year mileages.

That's a seven and a half to eight hours labour job PLUS parts and I'm pretty sure that car has a concentric slave cylinder as your fault is usually a result os slave failure.

My B Class went in for it's 1st MOT today and passed with one advisory. The side walls on my front tyres are showing evidence of some cracking.

I'm in two minds about what to do to be honest. If I send the tyres back I obviously need to buy 2 new ones first. To be honest I might just live with them for now and change when they are a bit more worn down and put it down to a bad experience.

Dinnae fash yersel. What exactly is the 'bad experience'? Superficial cracking is of no significance. My classic car tyres had been cracked for years when I eventually replaced them at over 20yrs old. Just be aware that with age they harden and don't grip quite so well. There is negligible chance of cracks penetrating so far as cause a leakage.

Need to collect my daughters BMW 520i and arrange to sell it from my house. The car is in the way and she needs the room on her drive.
The car is a 1994 BMW Tourer with less than 40000 miles unbelievably and its in remarkable condition for its year.
But although it has Mot and tax there is no insurance. I need to buy a days insurance to cover the journey from Nottingham to Northampton.
Can anyone recommend a suitable insurance company? Read more

Couldn't you try to sell it to a used car dealer in the area where the car is presently situated?

You certainly won't get the best price but, if you just want to clear it out of the way, it might be successful. Perhaps worth a couple of telephone calls?

My response to any proposed increase in car insurance premiums will be the same as it always is.

Let the people who are making the claims pay the increases!
