Hi. This is my first post and I could really do with some outside opinions. I have a budget of £5000. I was originally looking solely at the kia ceed but have surprisingly found myself also considering the focus. My last ford was an R reg escort estate back in 2006 since then it's been vauxhall and vans. I know very little about either car, I believe from what I've read the kia is reliable and this is primary concern as I travel 62 miles round trip to work every day 75% of which is dual carriageway/motorway. I've found one of each within my budget and now I'm just dithering as I had set on the ceed. I know the focus used to DMF issues, is this still the case? I've also read somewhere that the DPF would need replacing at 70,000 miles? I also have been told several times that 1.6 tends to suffer from fuel pump failure hence why thisbis the 1.8. Sorry for babbling, female, blonde and clueless! :-Do

Hi I'm new and hoping someone can help with some advice. After a long journey to Manchester and back my daughter's mini has developed a rhythmic knock from the rear of the timing cover area. It disappears if the revs are raised over about 1500 rpm. I know about the timing chain issues but with hers there's no chainsaw type grrrr noise just the knock. I've also heard about vacuum pump issue so I took off the small bore pipe to the pump but noise is still there and tbh I'm not sure how the pump could cause that noise as it's at the other side of the engine. Anyone heard of a time when the noise was something other than the chain or pump?
If it is the chain I will do it myself and see there are kits for £70 on eBay and also locking tools for about £40, anyone had any experience of using eBay stuff to fix this. Anyway thanks for reading. Read more
Update, was the serpentine belt was breaking up and causing the water pump friction drive to bang as the worn part passed over it. Cost of a new belt fixed it...Result
Hi,
I am after a ACEA C2 0w30 for my toyota yaris with dpf. I called a few toyota dealers but its sunday and their parts dept is closed. Anyways, in the manual toyota recommends "Toyota Genuine Motor Oil". Is the better to get that or will a castrol be fine. I want to replace my motor oil asap hence wanted to get the castrol today. The point I was making is that A3/B3 offers greater protection than A1/B1 so therefore A3/B3 offers better wear protection than the Ford spec oil that is to ACEA A1/B1
All the data about ACEA ratings is on the ACEA website....
I placed an order for a MB GLC 43 Premium Plus with standard 19" wheels In December, with a delivery date of mid March. I have been following the discussions on this site and other motoring sites and have grown increasingly uneasy about proceeding with my purchase.
Before I make contact with my dealer I wanted to know if I would be able to withdraw from the contract without financial penalty and if there is any chance of me getting some or all of my deposit back? What's the best way to approach the dealer regarding my concerns about the crabbing issue?... Read more
Not only a troll but an uninteresting and ignorant one...
Hi, a couple of months ago the timing chain failed on my car, my local garage couldnt fix it, so it was sent away to a place in Cardiff.
Best part of £2800 later and I had a repair on my engine and a new clutch.... Read more
The longest anyone should go between engine oil changes is 12 months, regardless of mileage, and even 6 months is preferable. The single best thing anyone can do to keep their engine in good condition is to change the engine oil and oil filter regularly.
Anyone reading should print the above off, enlarge it, laminate it and stick it in on the wall in a prominent place where it will be seen every day....
Considering buying a used BMW 320d SE 2013 with 94000k already on the clock.
Spoke to someone in my local Karate club who says stay well clear of these at that mileage as
that's when fuel pumps and filters go and are v expensive to repair what are people's thoughts on here ?
Car I'm thinking of has been on large care sales forcourt since July 2016 it's now Feb 2017
It's up for £9000 does this show it's a bad car?
Any thoughts on the above 2 questions ?
Cheers

I just wouldn't buy a used BMW diesel, there are just too many common faults, particularly engine and suspension problems. A great deal of it caused by BMW's daft biannual service intervals for business users which can see cars at 4yr old with 40-50k having had only one service!
Any modern turbocharged vehicle, especially a chain driven diesel needs fresh oil EVERY year in order to stay healthy. If you absolutely must have one then either spend more to get a low mileage car from a main dealer or If you insist on sticking below £9k then buy a well maintained privately owned previous generation car with a full main dealer service history and budget on maintaining this costly dealer maintenance unless you have a genuine BMW specialist nearby. These are not durable vehicles and require specialist care so if you're on a limited budget I'd avoid, they have a habit of going spectacularly wrong if you try to run them on the cheap. www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/bmw/3-series-f30-201...d

Hi All
My VW Golf (2004 MK5) wouldn't start on Monday despite being driven (albeit briefly) the day before. I assumed it had a flat battery as it had only been driven a few times over the previous 2 weeks on very short journeys so I charged the battery (as a jump start didn't work). ... Read more
very true Railroad.
I do computers (for 30 years), and am getting calls from autotechnicians to setup obd2 readers (chinas best from fleabay) and other electrical gizmos for use diagnosing problems on the car.
The equipment from Ebay are a fifth of the price, but there is a gamble if things go *ssszzz, poof* while plugged into a customers car.
Some autotechnicians use an oscilloscope to diagnose the waveform to check quality of leading edge etc for timing and activation.
It all seems like cutting edge stuff, till I say I was doing all this is computers in the 1980s !
What cutting state of the art, car do I drive...?
it's a performance peugeot 106 1.1, which is 20 years old.
It thinks electric windows and power steering ,
are a new fangled craze, and the work of the devil :)
Admitedly, it would crumple like a can of pop in a crash....
I know? the technology in cars is driven by the consumer thinking they need the latest gizmos, which the manufacturers are more than happy to oblige.
There seems? to be a market for a simple to fix car, without all the electronics on board?
Anywho, I wonder if it does all goes electrical,
whether there'd be just a motor and some wheels. simples
Cheers

Is there such a thing available for the current models ? Obviously I am joe public so would not expect to have access to Auto Data. Read more
Haynes didn't publish the 1st generation manual until 2011 so the OP is likely to have a few years wait yet for the 2nd generation to arrive.
Having read the horror stories about particulate filters, I have at this point resigned myself to avoiding an SUV fitted with a DPF and am looking to purchase a Honda CRV 2.0 petrol 4WD. (4WD will suit my purpose better than a 2WD due to some of the places I park) My budget is around 11.5K. (I am aware that a pre 2010 CRV 2.2iCDTI doesn't have a DPF but I don't want to fork out 10K plus for what is , in effect, an old car.) I started out with quite a good range of choices when I was looking for a diesel such as the Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan X-Trail, Ford Kuga and also a Honda CRV diesel but after reading about the perils of a DPF when journeys are quite short, I decided that I needed to avoid anything with one fitted. This has obviously reduced my options by quite a lot and I'm now going to have to pay the price in fuel costs.
I was just wondering whether I'm being too paranoid about having a 4WD with a DPF or are they actually as bad as they appear to be?... Read more
Halfords claim to be able to clean clogged DPF. I don't know how they do it but if you are looking at a huge bill to replace one then it might be worth checking them out.
Hi has anyone removed the insides out of there dpf on a ford just wondering do you remove everything inside it Read more
Remove the insides of the DPF and the first thing you'll get are erroneous readings from the Differenial Pressure Sensor and the car will go into limp mode.

There are none that close to me showing on auto trader. The closest is 48 miles away and listed as just under £6000. Most of the cars I've looked at are around 80 miles away and none have kia warranty. I guess it depends where you are? I'm in south Worcestershire near the border of Warwickshire and Gloucestershire :-/
