I recently went to a large Car Supermarket with the intention of buying a previously identified car. All went well until we came to look at finance.
To cut a long strory short, I had arranged external finance which was far cheaper than the Supermarket could offer. The Supermarket salesman told me it was either a cash purchase or their finance deal and they they would not accept third party finance packages. I was surprised by this approach and walked away given it would work out over £1500 more than I had arranged. Is their approach legal? My very basic understanding is that under FCA rules, they should accept all properly sourced finance packages? Any advice appreciated! Read more
The advice in the past was to tell the dealer that you want finance and when they come up with a "final" price, pay cash.
Right here goes on what ive checked and changed

Hello all,
We picked up a brand new Nissan Note Xe from dealer last Thursday. My wife drove it without issue for the past couple of days - longest jaunt was a circa 40Km each way motorway drive on Friday. Today, Saturday, she took the kids off to head on a trip. She was on the motorway having driven about 35km when all warning lights came on. She pulled over, managed to get to an off-ramp and stopped car. All warning lights on and wouldn't start. Mechanic arrived and said there's no fanbelt on the engine. She's just en route home now in rental car. Any idea how this could happen and what damage would have been done to engine without belt on it? We're presuming that belt must have been a dud or badly fitted and came off. I'm not good on the motoring mechanical side so just trying to figure out possibilities before we go nuclear with dealer on Monday.... Read more
If the auxilliary drive belt has been lost it will have allowed the engine to overheat and whilst it may not show up itself immediately costly engine problems will be on the horizon.
The only solution is to request a replacement car.
Hi,
I am thinking about buying a brand new car via gbcardeals.com. If you had any experience in buying from them, both positive and negative, please let me know. (I have never bought from an online car broker before.)... Read more
great engine, good spec.
I would welcome any advice regarding the use of additives in diesel fuel or premium diesel please. Have tried searching the forum without success , Regards , Mike Read more
I use pure 2-EHN (2 ethylhexyl nitrate), you can buy it quite cheaply on Ebay. 2-EHN is a well known Cetane booster, and pretty much forms the basis of every diesel additive and cleaner on the market, and increases combustion and even helps with cold starting during the winter months. In years gone by, it was also the base ingredient of choice in some premium Diesel fuels.
2-EHN won't clean the injectors, but it will help to increase MPG, and in some cases also give a small amount of power boost. I find that I get around 4-5mpg better when adding 2-EHN, even to Supermarket diesel....

If everything is totally dead,i would take a close look at the battery terminals and leads.remove the leads and clean the inside of the terminals and give the battery posts a good brush up
can a flywheel seize if a car is not driven for several months.
The garage is charging us for clutch kit and a new flywheel. The car broke down 4 days after we bought it and it took a court case and 8 months before garage would look at it, and they are now charging us over 8oo for clutch kit and flywheel as they say it has seized due to car being off the road for this length of time. The car cost £3000 18 months ago. You have to look at what it is worth now. It would be dreadful if you ended up paying more than the car is worth and then selling it quickly because you are not happy with it - I am assuming your son has not had the opportunity to droive it since the it was returned to the garage. This is a really awkward one to judge.

I had a look at the other side. Although rusty and stiff, its better aligned, the glass is held in by the clips, not by large blobs of sealant, and you can get a socket on the end of the clip securing bolts.

Some years ago I used a (modified for positive earth) solar car battery charger on a sixties’ classic. This connected to the cigar lighter that was on a fused circuit. I am now thinking of using one on a “future” classic as the alarm, etc. drain the battery when standing. However the lighter circuit is only live when the ignition is turned on (not a sensible option). I was wondering what the best way to wire the charger in was on a more modern car with ECU, etc?... I got these from ebay, but the quality wasn't good.
I've had to resolder them.
but these were the cheapest I could get £2

and this connected to a spare fully charged battery in the foot well, and feeding back to the main battery.

It'll take twice as long to discharge, as one battery.
