The new part will have serial numbers, so should be traceable. It all depends how helpful the dealer wants to be in detective work.

Agree with Railroad. If you buy it, get timing belt, waterpump and all tensioners and rollers changed. I seem to recall that it should cost somewhere in the region of £300 or so. Negotiate the amount off the purchase price.

Not getting it done is playing russian roulette.

Hi to all and thank you for your time. I bought a 2008 Ford Focus titanium manual in Feb 2015 and have had nothing but trouble with it. The starts fine but has a slight hesitation. When revved in neutral there's a slight popping/misfire which can be heard from the cat area. The car often hesitates when accelorating and when idling ( in gear and in neutral you can feel a slight pulsing/ vibration from the car. It's been to two different ford garages and countless other garages. All have ran diagnostics but nothing was ever found. The dmf was found to be going so a new one along with a new clutch and slave were fitted but no improvement. A good friend who's a mechanic found the inlet flaps were worn so a new manifold was fitted with a new map but to no avail. To date I have done the following with little or no improvement - cleaned throttle body, serviced twice including new plugs and pencil coils. New crank position sensor ( new one given to me to try), new lambda sensor, compression test ( fine), new driver side and lower engine mounts replaced, vacume leak checks ( fine). Yet still does the above. During a check on the timing the chain has slight slack and one cam is out by around 1 degree. The engine appeared clean to with no gunk or residue. Any advice would be beyond appreciated
Kind regards

Railroad.

Go back to basics. Connect a vacuum gauge to the inlet manifold and do some simple checks. Google how to use one and what to look for.

The biggest problem with buying at auction is the inability to personally drive the car. Having purchased a car at auction I then discovered windows didn't work, suspension needed overhaul, brakes needed completely replacing etc. very expensive tuition for learning NOT to buy at auction! Read more

I wonder how many people know that British Car Auctions own We Buy Any Car? i only found this out a few weeks ago after selling my car to them but i did enjoy watching it go through the auction .Sold the car for 5.5k and it made 5.5 k @ auction so i guess they made their money on sales fees.

I have received a recall notice to carry out software updates to my 2.0l CR 143 (E189) engine. It is claimed there will be no change to economy or performance. My questions are:

1. Why did they need to install cheat software if the fix is that simple?... Read more

The initial shipments of Mercedes-Benz ML had the same problem - trip computer worked in metric or US measure but not imperial - because the car was built in the US and the yanks think their standards are global.

I have an Audi A3 which was bought new in August 2015 and has approximately 7000 miles on the clock. The tyres are Dunlop Sport Maxx

I recently had a slow puncture from a nail and on visiting Kwik Fit to have it repaired, they advised that all four of my tyres had cracks within the central tread running around the circumference of the tyre.... Read more

By way of an update, I took the car into Audi who checked the car over and advised there was nothing wrong with the tyres. This was after it went up on the ramp for a second time, are they insisted there was no risk of a blow out and the cracking was normal and would pass an MOT.

I've also checked the date stamp on the side of the tyres, which is June 2015 for all four tyres....

Solid tyres develop little cornering force so apart from the dreadful ride over bumps they are positively unsafe at anything over 20 mph.
