Nissan now in the frame.

Anyone not fiddling their emissions would be a simpler question.

I'd put money on a bet that EVERY car gets changes to its emission controls BEFORE the new test regime becomes mandatory and that EVERY car shows worse fuel consumption.

As Nissan use Renault engines, that must mean them too.

Mercedes (and smart) also use Renault engines.

It just proves manufacturers are struggling.

I would stay away from diesels because in the future many city centres will be making it harder to drive them.

In the second hand marker there are many more diesels then petrol. Air pollution will get worse, forcing authorities to improse greater measures...

IIRC one company said they could reduce exhaust gases and particulates, problem was no one was willing to pay the cost of the technology to do it

London may be the first to make it more expensive to use Diesels, though not certain what will happen as far as delivery motors are concerned, also they are talking about replacing the hybrid buses

its stated that they are not clean enough, But the cost for those they already have is £314000 each so the new Mayor said the other night, Oh and the windows do not open ?

Have TFL revealed the fuel consumption of the disastrous Boris buses compared to the other hybrids yet? I know it was asked through an FOI but TFL refused to reveal the figures.

Boris also signed for a load more ( supposedly improved, well the windows will open acknowledging the aircon is useless) just before he vacated office.

AFAIA, it was mentioned the older diesel buses were more economical than the hybrid, though no mention of the difference, but I gather the new man is going to cancel the new buses

Problem with TFL you never get a straight answer

I dont think its now worth worrying about the emissions scandals whether we like it or not.

If the government is not going to do anything about it (excluding Mayors thoughts and promises on the subject) I suspect diesels will be okay for a few years yet

I'm much more concerned in who is giving out accurate MPG figures than who is fiddling their emissions - if a manufacturer states a car can achieve 50mpg then this ought to be qualified with the process used, and a statement of emissions generated - in a way that the aveage driver can do likewise - or the claim should be rejected as being false with prosecutions to follow etc

Cars are tested on the NEDC cycle, so the qualification is obvious - manufacturers cannot publish any other figures.

The problem is that the NEDC cycle is unrepresentative of any normal driving.

The new RDE test will be better than the old NEDC test - but unlikely to be as useful as we'd all like for estimating fuel consumption

ALL emission/economy tests in the EU are observed by government or government approved insectors. This does not happen in many other countries of the world(including the US)where manufacturers carry out their own tests and forward the results to the authorities who may or may not call in the vehicle for observed testing.

The US doesn't have unified emission limits, California being the strictest with many states having none.

So who else is fiddling their emissions figures? - jc2

In the US,California checks are done by the California Air Resources Board(CARB).The other states are covered by the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA).What I said above applies to both CARB & EPA.I did not mention limits.
