According to Ford, the 2012 Ford Focus 1.6 (105bhp) should do 35mpg around the houses (i.e. urban driving). However I am only getting 27 or 28mpg! Even if I do one longer journey per week (40miles) I only get 32mpg. Is this normal and do you know anyone with this model who has the same experience? Thanks. Read more

If this is typical of presumably the 1.6 Duratec it's a poor do compared with the old 1.6 Zetec. I did a brim-to-brim over several hundred miles recently on our first generation 2000 Focus Auto estate 1.6Zetec with over 110,000m and got around 37mpg overall. Of course, it could be your enthusiastic driving technique.....

It is a fact that different drivers, in the same car, on the same roads, can return fuel consumption figures different by as much as 30%. So without knowing exactly how you drive (acceleration, braking, typical cruisng speed, gear change timing etc) no one can say whether your Focus is giving good or poor mpg....

Hi,
I bought an engine but as delivered no injection pump, can I use the injection pump on my old one? I was asked by the mechanic that he will check if it needs decoding. I want help for those who knew about this. Thanks Read more

You can use the old pump, which is the easiest option, with no coding required..But you need to make sure it fits the bracket on the engine block as there are a few variations.

Sometimes and usually under 2 miles. The gearbox " tugs" a couple of tims then the snow and overdiv symbols flash. If I switch off engine, then on it is fine.

I have read that under the air filter is nut which I can remove and partially fill with automatic gearbox oil and should cure the problem?... Read more

Maybe I picked the dodgy one!

Down the years I've spoken to plenty of recovery men (I've had a fair number of break downs in various cars), and they're usually a good source on info about unreliable makes and models. Afterall, they come to recover hundreds of vehicles a year, so build up a picture of what's what....

I have a three month old Mazda 3 bought on a pcp deal. My wife has just driven it into a wall! Actually it was only at 1 mph and it has jest left three 1cm scuffs along the bonnet rim.

My question is, should I get it done at the main dealers or choose another (cheaper?) option. My concern is keeping its value as high as possible for when I return it on the pcp deal.... Read more

Good experience here with Chips Away. Needed to sort a bumper scuff and a bit of paint on a lease car. Done well, lease company couldn't detect the repair. Practical issue: they need clear road or driveway to work if they are working at your premises.
