Parked up a Peterborough Antiques Fair yesterday, and struggling to get a table onto the roof rack when it got away from us and blew off and hit somebody else's parked car.

Now is this actually a car insurance issue, or is it more a third party liability thing? Neither car was being driven at the time. Read more

I'm not an expert, but I would have thought this was in the first instance a matter for car insurance, since cars are involved on both sides. And a car has been damaged.

I don't think it matters whether the cars were being driven or not....

On a recent trip to Madiera my Mitsubishi hire car hit a rock or some other solid item, whist grinding up one of the many steep hills.

I managed to get back to my hotel, where I tried to use the tyre sealant & compressor to inflate the tyre.... Read more

My Skoda Superb has a full size spare, in a well beneath the boot lining. The car came with 17" wheels with 225x45x17 tyres. When I say full size, that is a relative term. The well will accommodate a maximum of a 16" wheel!! So the spare is actually a steel 16" wheel with a 205x55x16 tyre. It will easily get you out of immediate trouble and IMHO is far better than a skinny spare. Obviously the body pressing was designed before the 'big wheel' craze that seems to have pervaded the car market. A friend trashed a 20" wheel and tyre on his X5. The price of a small second hand car to replace it!!! Cheers Concrete

Anyone know what the differences are between the Subaru Legacy estate and the Outback? I am told that the Outback has a greater ground clearance but that cannot be all, surely? I'm specifically interested in the 2000-2005 era. Read more

It seems then that the extra ground clearance and protective cladding are the only differences.

Thanks to all for that and all the other very useful info....

When driving at no particular time or distance the brakes start to gradually operate on their own. Having pulled over and waited 10 or 15 mins it clears itself. Or sometimes while driving, lifting the peddle slightly with my left foot sometimes clears it. Two garages cannot solve the problem. Any ideas. Read more

About to sell me car and getting the paperwork ready i find I only have section 9,10,11, 12 of the V5C, seem to have lost its first page. Can I proceed without the first page or must i buy a replacement document? Can I tell the DVLA of the sale online without the rest of the document?

The short answer is that yes, you can. If you do it online then you just knock the first digit off the reference number on the V5C/2 and it should then work.

@brum agree. The car should have a report done and repaired at another garage.

Incorrectly replacing a timing chain will break your engine. BMW timing chains are normally at the back of the engine and it a fair amount of work to replace them. Hence i find it odd they offer to do the work for £650 in parts....
