Can anyone help me with my 2009 Vauxhall Zafira B 1.6 Design. My central locking double lock (deadlock) stopped working. It happens before but after fiddling with the key fob while it still in the ignition I manage to make it work again, but I forgot how I manage to do it and the sequence. I have a habit of opening the door first before pulling the key out off the ignition switch, I think that is the reason why my double lock(deadlock) system stopped working again. can anyone knows how to reset it to activate the double lock system again. Thank you Read more

Hi John, My Volvo XC60 has just had it,s second year service with only 9,400 miles on the clock. I have a 5 year pre-paid service plan; so was surprised to receive a phone call to say the brake fluid needed changing at a cost of £90.00 and did I wish to proceed. I reluctantly agreed to the work due to the safety implications, but was called back a few minutes later to say that the car was already on the road and was being delivered back to me. I agreed to phone them back to fix a convenient date for the work to be done. It gave me a chance to check the termsw and conditions of my service plan and also what was written in the, Maintenance and Service section of the Owners Manual (page 360) The second paragraph clearly states - 'change the brake fluid every other year or at every other regular service.' In my opinion this work should have been automatically carried out at this service and again in the future fourth service, without the need for any fluid tests. I contacted the garage again and sent them a copy of the relevant page from the owners manual.Having consulted with the main dealership manager, I was contacted back and told that they would carry out the work 'free of charge.' I did not labour the point, but I am of the opinion that I have already paid for two brake fluid changes and I hoped that I would not have the same situation in two years time when the second change is due. The employee could not give me that assurance. Do you think I am right and is dealership pulling a fast one on all Volvo owners when asked to pay for this work, every other service and are they exposing themselves to possible serious litigation if they fail to do the work as specified and this results in a serious incident? Having bought this to the dealership,s attention, I would hope that they check their maintenance schedules and make sure that this work is included - after all, they will not be out of pocket as the cost will be added to any service quotations; that is, if it is not already includes and this is just another garage scam. Perhaps I am being cynical? Read more

As long as the brake fluid is not silicone(DoT 5) any water absorption will be dispersed through all of it. However, modern brake systems are so well sealed that water cannot get in....

HI All

Did you ever get to the bottom of this and fix it?

I have had the exact same thing happen, it's taken a couple of months since adding the rad weld, but now goes to red line and light on as soon as you go over 50 mph or put your foot down a bit.

I have a 2.8 crd grand voyager stow and go 2006, it was loosing water but we couldn't see where, so added the rad weld. No more water loss, great, but now not great. The water colour in the header tank is very murky orange.

Planning to drain system and fit new thermostat.
Any thoughts welcome.

We often keep our cars to the death in our family as at least we know where we stand. Seeking a used BMW 1 Series I came across a pleasantly specced car that was a gnat's whisker under 10k but SIX years old to the day. I know they have to make a profit but the trade in price of said car is arounf £5750 if you are lucky. That is a lot to lose driving home and it is not even a decent paint colour!

Is there any rule of thumb for depreciation age and buying percentage of new or is it pot luck? Writing down £10k over four years to ten years makes new cars seem bargains.... Read more

Your suggesting that they made £4250 for the car of which I assume around 700 is VAT. £3400 sounds a big margin to be honest

Normal I would expect 20%-25% between trade and dealer prices....

I read reviews of Audi cars in various places including 'What Car' and they always go on about the build quality of the interiors of Audi's. What i cannot understand is that if the interior is beautifully built, with quality materials, then why arn't Audi's at the top of the reliability surveys? Surely the quality materials are throughout the whole car. Audi should be number one with their outstanding build quality and yet companies like Ford, who are criticised for their build quality, can go on working for many years without fuss.

Backroom opinions welcome. Read more

Celebrity endorsement of a particular car is the last thing that would influence me to choose it.

Couldn't agree more, and as for Top Gear and its like, i sincerely hope no one ever took a blind bit of notice of anything endorsed there, buy a car recommended by that mob?, i'd rather line me Y fronts with nettles.

I'll be watching the first episode of the new Top Gear just out of curiosity, but Chris Evans has got one of those faces I want to punch as soon as I see it.

The most common area for water retention on these,is in the boot area ,in the right hand wing well, which is behind the right rear wheel. This is where the battery is located. You will need to get the battery and the metal support frame removed to knock through a couple of pre-formed bungs. If you are not confident in doing this job yourself,i would leave it to a garage,as there are lots of wires and connectors attached to the battery and surrounding area.

My 2005 E46 convertible, as do many others, collects water in the spare wheel well in addition to the battery container. Various BMW Forums report entry via a failed rear light clusster seal or via the floor of the compartment into which the soft-top folds. That has an invisible drain hole under each of the roof frame mounting points and these can become blocked. They can sometimes be cleared by an airline with a small diameter tube attached and then shoved under the roof frame mounting plates. Pour a little water into that area and it should immediately appear under the car just ahead of the rear wheel. There are removable bungs under the spare wheel. Remove one to allow accumulated water to drain away. I contacted HJ because my light seals seem OK and the hood compartment drains work well, but water still gets in both to boot and under the rear seat cushion....

Many thanks for coming back to us. Glad you're enjoying it: you seem to be getting better mpg than a lot of people who have the 1.0 engine in the Focus.

The 1.6 sounds just the right engine for the size of car: the 1.0 is probably best for the Fiesta.

Most of your issues seam to include the comment sports mode. Sports mode should simply allow more rev before getting a gear change. The issues there centre around high revs, which if you suggest cause a warning light are correct you should get a fault code recorded and an indication of the issue.

On that basis above. I would get the fault codes read indipendantly and take it back to the dealer to repair. Failure to repair the issues would give solid grounds for rejection and you have a record of the fault code being produced....
