As per the title, we are currently looking to replace our aging car with a 2013 model focus 1.6 Ecoboost or Leon 1.4 TSI ACT.
Which would be our best bet for long term reliability first and performance second?... Read more
Hi,
I'm a newbie to forums, but just wondered if anyone had any experience with issues like I currently have with my Polo GTI and the dealership.... Read more
Most of your issues seam to include the comment sports mode. Sports mode should simply allow more rev before getting a gear change. The issues there centre around high revs, which if you suggest cause a warning light are correct you should get a fault code recorded and an indication of the issue.
On that basis above. I would get the fault codes read indipendantly and take it back to the dealer to repair. Failure to repair the issues would give solid grounds for rejection and you have a record of the fault code being produced....
I happen to see a car advertised with 25,000 miles. However, it has 2 owners.
The car was registered in June 2012... Read more

I have no idea what I'm talking about so please bare with me.
We have a Corolla Verso T180 D4D bought new in 2006. We were sold the car as a family car, which was ideal. It ran like a dream until we started having problems with the engine maintenance lights coming on which showed a fault with the EGR valve, around April 2008. These problems dragged on, with the car going in to limp mode, until finally the EGR valve was replaced. However, this did not resolve the problem and in 2011 the engine was stripped down. We were told on this occasion that there was an inherent defect with the engine (model not made anymore) and that this couldn't happen again. And it didn't, until Friday.... Read more
I assume you're talking about taking it only to main dealers?
I'd suggest you try a local diesel specialist, who'd probably only charge you a fraction of a main dealer to remove and clean the EGR....
Car has done 10K miles from new. Since its last service a year ago it has only done 5.5K miles. Annual service is due and has been booked-in – to be completed in two weeks' time. Are these messages likely to be honest and valid? What does "Oil at 1%"really mean please? Garage says: don't drive it til you're bringing it in for the service. Read more
You're well known here for using exceptionally long change intervals - no-one else who cares about cars does that....
Anyone owns or has any experience with the auto gearbox? Any known faults? Citroen told me in a conventional 4 speed auto. Read more
Thank you! I will go for the 4 speed. My budget is around £7000 max so i think i can find a decent ds3!
HELP!
My wife went into the side of a DPD van that pulled out infront of her. Our much loved campervan was smashed to bits on the front right. She has numerous witnesses (including Police) who support her non fault claim.... Read more
Great point RobJP. Deal direct, it cuts the middle men out and makes things easier and cheaper. I hate to say it, but I repeat: Slater Gordon are not your friend, they are not doing this because they are nice peolpe, they are doing it for MONEY. You can also set up your e mail to request a receipt when the e mail is opened or deleted without opening. This serves as an acknowledgement of receipt in case of argument later. I hope the valuations go your way and you can prceed toa conclusion swiftly.
Cheers Concrete
I've never previously bought a used car from a main dealer (had plenty of new cars in my time though). I'm looking at a 2011 VW Polo 1.4 at a main dealer. Car has done 34,000 and is up at £7,000. As a cash buyer do you think the dealer would be prepared to entertain a discount?
Looking at private I could probably get a similar car for just over £6,000 - say £6,250. The same car at a non VW dealer would be around £6,500.... Read more
Good response. I do have the option of taking 'advantage' of VW's own finance which comes with a £500 contribution towards the deposit (effectively reducing the price by £500) and a couple of other sweetners thrown in. If I go this route (which also includes 2 free services) I could pay the finance off 1 or 2 months later.
Excellent Idea. I always found that when purchasing a car, sales people love the idea of making commision on finance and therefore giving you some room to push the deal. Just push back on any one off charges for the finance...

I would appreciate your views on the following. I have just bought a Toyota Auris and there is 10mths of the manufacture`s warranty to run. I have been offered a `2 for 1` entended manufacture`s warranty. This is for 2 years and costs £516. I can defer this until the next service. I have just got burned with a previous warranty and am only considering this because the warranty is being issued by Toyota. I`ve looked at the T&C`s and the dreaded `Wear and Tear` proviso is stated in them. Is it worth buying the warranty? I fully realise that service items like brake pads are not covered but it seems to me that the above provise lets them off any hook since everything is worn to some extent. Has anyone had experience of claiming off these type of warranties. Basically are they as good is the warranty issued with the new car? Read more
I have just extended the 3 year pan-european warranty by two years on my Honda Accord tourer. I bought it in the UK and exported it to France. It is valid in all the usual EU countries and also includes Honda breakdown and accident assistance including hotel and hire car costs if the car can't be fixed within 24 hours.
I can also delete the breakdown assistance that comes as standard with car insurance over here but unless you pay extra it only kicks in 25 km from home....
Many thanks for coming back to us. Glad you're enjoying it: you seem to be getting better mpg than a lot of people who have the 1.0 engine in the Focus.
The 1.6 sounds just the right engine for the size of car: the 1.0 is probably best for the Fiesta.
