To get the official MPG results do they use the information displayed by the car or do they use an independent means of calculating fuel usage. The reason for my question is that the Ghibli forum believes that fuel consumption shown is 12.5% more than it should be.

The gearbox on my estate makes a constant grinding noise when in 4th gear, also in 6th but less so.
Does this mean a new gearbox or could there be a less expensive cure? Is the gearbox likely to suddenly sieze up as I hurtle along the motorway at 80 mph? How much should I expect to pay to have the gearbox reconditioned? Read more

No issues with the quality of the helix oil and that it's fully synthentic the point being the for example 5W30 comes in various flavours AP-L AF , AG etc
So AF is for Ford and AP-L peugeot & Fiat and AG for GM. But for all VW it's AVL which is not stated on the Invoice.
Has anyone used the Pepipoo site recently? Just when I want it (having been 'mugged' by a council for stopping on a bus stop for 10 seconds!) I am finding all the Pepipoo forums are closed or unobtainable. All you get is a message 'IPS Driver Error.' It has been like this since Saturday.
If it wasnt so high there would be no deterrent. And if you are obstructing a stop what happens when a bus comes along and needs to stop there? Wait untill you move and in the meantime cause another obstruction? Drive off leaving the passengers? Stop somewhere else that may be ilegal for the bus?
More than a bit inconsiderate if you ask me....
After the central locking stopped working on my A4 I reset the key after changing the fob battery.

Managed to get underneath the car for some ither problems regarding vacuum leaks. A nut on the gearbox/ antiroll / torque mount (i dont know what its caled) was loose for the aparent reason that the mechanic saw fit to losen it when replacing the dpf, but didnt remeber to tighten it back.
The rathle aparantly stoped and I'm hoping that did the job....
My daughter in laws car has suddenly aquired a huge thirst for engine oil.
It does not appear to be burning it, & the engine is very clean, no deposists on parking places etc. She is not overfilling it either... Read more
What do you consider a "huge thirst for engine oil.".
Has she had a recent service and they have used the wrong oil. Is the oil breather system clear and working....
The Bosch pump and fuel pipe on my 1993 ZX 16v have died. I've been trying to get the seal, pipe and pump for it (rather than buy the whole unit). Searches for the actual car don't turn up a load of choice and prices vary a lot.
Are the parts for a 306 SI16 (same engine as my ZX) or 306GTi interchangeable with the ZX 2.0?... Read more
Both cars run similar injection systems,so I can't see it being a problem.If you can get the correct pump to fit the in tank frame and mate up to the pipework then go with it.Make sure the correct pump is fitted,as cars with the lesser engines and single point injection have a lower output pump.

we have a 55 reg Mazda 5 MPV in which the engine 'died' back in 2014 (failed MOT because of emissions, 2 different mechanics confirmed oil burning problems and needed rebuilding or replacing or scrapping). It has languished on the drive ever since. Husband is a massive pessimist about replacing the engine (thinks it will be too much) and we bought another cheap family car while we decided what to do.... Read more

Say the car is worth about 2K if it is in working condition. By the time you,ve sourced and fitted a replacement engine, you will have spent about 1500 quid or so cheapest, I reckon. You'v already seen that it is a money pit, so you've achieved little. Best to sell it for spares and buy something petrol, Japanese preferably.
