Is this a good car for weekly runs round the city, plus a few long distance (5 hour) trips a year?

Is it fairly easy to drive for a newly qualified (but middle-aged) driver?... Read more

Modern common rail fuel pressure can be as high as 30,000psi. DIY repairs are a definite no, and if you have a fuel leak at any high pressure joint the components must be replaced. There is a safety issue here. Get the car taken to a diesel specialist, not Joe Bloggs auto repairs.

NB, Joe Bloggs auto repairs is fictional and nothing in the above statement is intended to depict or detriment any business trading under such name.

That F-Pace got some cracking reviews in the weekend papers.

Spotted one in Leamington the other month. Huge great thing. Just perfect for double-parking outside the school gates then!

Hi bought a 2011 Astra J Sports Tourer 12 months ago from Car Select.

Been pretty pleased with the car, mechanically it has been flawless and I have been happy with the car in general, obviously it's not a new car so the odd scatch and knock here and there is to be expected.... Read more

You can't possibly have a legal case against Vauxhall. Your purchase contract was with the dealer.

You've now had the car a long time (at least in terms of a car's life). If the faults were not there when you bought the car, it's hard to see how you could build a case against the dealer....

Thanks.

Seems that this engine had loads of problems and then dropped. Problems were well known, as an extract from e-mail exchange with Chris Craft (UK Director of VW Cars) and administrator of Scirocconet – May 2011 ...

Hi, I am looking for a car to do around 500 motorway miles per week (for the university term so approximately 25 weeks of the year). I'm looking for a comfortable car with decent MPG (43+). However, due to being an 18 year old who has had a crash I'd need something in a relatively low insurance group. At the moment I'm driving an 07 Fiat Grande punto.

A Kia Rio would be a good choice, as Oldroverboy says, as would a Fiesta. You don't even need a 1.4 for motorway journeys, the 1.25 is surprisngly spritely and has no trouble cruising at illegal speeds. Fiestas are comfortable too.

I would avoid the smaller city cars that Bazza suggests, too small and uncomfortable for 100 miles per day, and as they's be working harder, no gains in economy.

Found this car 2.2 CRDI at a cracking price but its racked up 140k on a 10 plate. Now it has FSH main dealer all bang on with service intervals with 1 former owner. Checked all previous MOT`s and nothing scary has appeared.

Condition of exterior and interior is great, so i was ready to buy but after talking to my mate he has given it the thumbs down based on the mileage saying it`s to high. So is their anything that i`m missing ? ive taken into account resale value and know that we be doing fairly small mileage of around 8k per year. Read more

That amount of miles could work for you - I suspect many of the miles will be easy long journey or motorway miles so less wear on suspension, steering, brakes, gearbox, clutch. My 2011 Santa Fe has 61k on it but at 2 years old it had 45k on it and it still has 40% to 50% of brake pads left. The suspension is set up firm and mine has plenty of creaks and a few rattles but it had most of them from new. RT is right, parts are very expensive if you need them.

I purchased a new Zafira in 2013 - it came with a lifetime warranty. In 2014 I booked the 1st service with a local Vauxhall Service Centre - they cancelled the appt three times because they didn't have a courtesy car available - in the end I had to sit and wait more than five hours for the service to be carried out "while-you-wait." The service record shows that they reactivated the lifetime warranty - the service record book also reflects this. At the time a faulty switch was found and I was asked to return about 10 days later to have this rectified - it was done under the terms of the warranty.

I thought no more about the bad experience I had with the centre until my service was due this year. I booked in with a different Vauxhall service centre and asked for the lifetime warranty to be reactivated. I was surprised to be told that the warranty on the car had been cancelled.... Read more

And was a very limited warranty and just proves another good reason not to buy a GM product.

From one of the other posts here anyone for a 1.4t engine that appears to be as bad as a rover K series.....
