Vauxhall Astra J Sport Tourer - 2011 Astra J Paint Issue - advice - crneo

Hi bought a 2011 Astra J Sports Tourer 12 months ago from Car Select.

Been pretty pleased with the car, mechanically it has been flawless and I have been happy with the car in general, obviously it's not a new car so the odd scatch and knock here and there is to be expected.

The paint work is generally in excellent condition for the age, and I have looked after it meticulously since my ownership and made sure it's been washed and serviced correctly.

The problem I have is that I have noticed two quite paint defects on the car which I believe could only be either from the factory or from paintwork that may have been done on the vehicle.

The painting is coming away from within the rain rail area, it simply flakes off and leaves a beige colour underneath, I know at least one other owner that has had this, I think this could be due to the fact there is seam sealer or something in that area the paint hasn't fully adhered to properly. It's not noticeable unless you are looking but it's not right still.

More worrying is today I have noticed that the paint on the top edge of all doors has very tiny bubbling on it, this seems more prominent on the nearside but similar on all doors. Again this is very small but the worry is it may get worse.

Wondering if anyone can advise:

a) what could be the cause of this

b) do I have any case to bring against Car select or Vauxhall at all?

c) if not what would be the best course of action

Thanks

You can't possibly have a legal case against Vauxhall. Your purchase contract was with the dealer.

You've now had the car a long time (at least in terms of a car's life). If the faults were not there when you bought the car, it's hard to see how you could build a case against the dealer.

The dealer might have offered you a warranty, which might cover this, but it's unlikely - check the paperwork.

There might be some Vauxhall warranty - check the paperwork in the manual as well as in the purchase documents. If there is, it may provide cover beyond the legal minimum.

I suspect that the best solution is "fix it yourself" or live with it.
