Hello, I have here in Oman where I work an ex Royal Oman Police BMW R80/7, at some point the engine was replaced with a 750 cc unit consequently the numbers do not match. it is running but I have not tested and insured it for the road here owing to the crazy drivers and accident stats. (I have 3 young kids to think about!) My contract ends shortly and wondering about the UK value and whether it's worth shipping it home to sell. I have seen similar bikes and asking on Ebay crazy money 4-5 K, but feel sure this was never achieved. thought about adding an age related sidecar, how would this do the value? if I shipped it in bits could I assemble, register with age related plate or would it be a "q", any advice welcome, many thanks, Mike. hello, looking to do some wheel bearings for the family fleet and need to buy a hydralic press, which tonnage is adequate, 6, 12, 20 or 30 ton? price goes up as tonnage so want tool for the job at the right price. thanks Read more
@Chris agree totally. Seized suspension bolts can be a nightmare and evan garages end up replacing suspension parts as the bolts simply can't be removed.
A bearing puller (that fits your car) should start at around £60 but well worth the investment if you plan the DIY route....
This is my first time on any forum so please be gentle. I bought a new VW Tiguan in July 2015 on PCP, after only owning the car for 1 week I noticed when I went ro wash it the drivers door was out of line, the car went into VW's Body Shop for 3 days & I was told this is quite a common fault!!!!. Then after 2000 miles a Adblue alarm came on my dash, I'd never heard of Adblue before so I looked it up, back to the dealer for a top up, I was a bit annoyed the salesman never mentioned this when I bought the car.
Now for my main gripe, at the beginning of December I heard a knocking noise coming from the rear of the car, the dealer took the car for a day & confirmed the knock but would need it for 3 days to investigate it, so the car was booked in on Monday the 4th of January, I had to call the dealer on the Friday as no one had been in touch to say how things were going, they said they would call me back, which the didn't so on the Saturday I went to the dealer in person to ask about my car, I was told it had to go into the body shop because they couldnt locate the source of the knock & was told they would call me on the Monday with an update, they never called, I waited until the Thursday then phoned the dealer who said they would chase up the body shop & call me back, they never did, so I called the body shop & they said an assessor was looking at the car & they would call me back, they never did either. So a little annoyed at this stage I emailed VW with the story so far & received a call on Saturday the 16th of Jan off a Customer Complaints Manager who apologised & would be dealing with my issue, he said he would chase up the dealer & call me back Monday ..... you guessed it, no call back.... For one compaining to VW about the dealer is no the correct route. It's nothing to do with them at all. Would you complain the Bosch if John Lewis failed to resolve fixing you your washing machine?
Sadly you need to keep chasing them and if the car is not fixed you could take action but this would require an independant report to identify the issue and to be used in court....
My car has developed a whine when decelerating in 5th gear. I have spoken to my mechanic and done some research and I believe this is a bearing problem. I am planning on getting it fixed but as the car has 120k on the clock I want to assess if the repair is worth it or I should cut my losses and look for a new car. I have had the car since 2009 and have really looked after it and it had a new clutch last year. My gut is saying that the cost of fixing this would not buy me a new car so fix it but I'm not sure - can anyone share their experience with an issue like this please?
Thanks for any help Read more
Thank you to all who have commented I appreciate that the car in money terms is not worth a lot so in order to prolong its life should I avoid 5th gear or just drive as I would normally? I am currently going from 4th to 6th gear where possible. I will also investigate the EP80-90 oil option to see if that improves the situation.
Thanks again

As the headline price for basic petrol goes down and down, the margin between basic and higer octane is becoming more unpredictable. When basic petrol was more expensive, the margin was around 5p. Now it varies up to 10 or even 20p.
The best value for higer octane in my area (Bucks/Herts) seems to be Tesco Momentum, which you can still get for £1.04 Read more
Re Rt. Why go to 4000 when 2500 will do? It's a matter of getting enough to do the job, without having to swap gears unnecessarily. Some might enjoy that at times, as I did when I had a Honda, but it can be tiresome. A little more torque underfoot is more relaxing, and efficient probably.
I don't disagree - it's a matter of buying the right engine to start with.
Hi All,
I recently purchased a Mazda 5 and have discovered a problem was wanting help with. The passenger side sliding door doesn't latch when it is frosty. I can unlock and open the door without a problem, but when i close it, it doesn't latch, or stay closed. After about 10-15 minutes (once warmed up) it then does latch. ... Read more

They're fine if they were fitted as standard to the car (in which case they would have been type approved) but if they are aftermarket bulbs fitted to headlamps designed for halogen bulbs then they are illegal - you would have to fit a complete type approved headlight to make them legal or go back to halogen.
