While up in Leeds the other day for other reasons went to look at a car advertised on a cerain website (with a lady friend who was interested)and on the surface it looked okay. Was told that damage was "only bumper wing and headlight" so a question, car was 2 years old, no service history being sold on a back street lot.

Had a good poke for friend, but advised against even though the price was attractive.... Read more

Since looking at the above car, Have researched (or rather "Googled) the subject and the messages are very mixed, and there were no warnings that i could see about airbag activation.

Have since found her a venga at a dealer not too far away that she likes and same year spec accident free and £1500 more with the balance of the 7 year kia warranty....

The current low Fuel prices must be hurting the Government,s revenue stream sommat bad

I doubt it's making much difference to the Chancellor as the fuel duty is a fixed amount per litre. The only thing which will reduce is the VAT take from fuel sales, which is relatively minor in comparison - and they charge VAT on the duty itself anyway so I won't be playing any violins for them.

I think the Government rakes in something like £25billion from fuel duty a year and that won't change. Even if oil got so cheap it was free and the retailer did it for nothing, the stuff would still cost at least 70p a litre.

I recently bought a used (3 year old) car. A 2012 Ford Focus 1.6 105bhp (petrol) with 18 000 miles on the clock.

I had the car for just a few weeks when I noticed smoke coming from underneath the bonnet whilst driving up a steep hill. I went back to the Ford garage where I bought it this morning. The service manager came out to look under the bonnet to see if he could see the problem. He said he thought it was coming from the clutch. He then went on to say to me that it was my driving that was causing it! I am 80 years old and have been driving for 55 years!

When I questioned his attitude towards both me and the car he flounced off without trying to resolve the issue with me in an adult way. Do you know anyone who behaves like this?

'Virtual' bashing is, I assume, online bashing rather than physical up-duffment. There's therefore nothing to fear from it.

Does anyone know what the difference in performance etc. is between the Ford Focus 2011- 1.6 ti-vct (105bhp) engine and the Ford Fiesta 2008- 1.4 94bhp engine? I know that the 1.6 in the Focus is variable cam but what about the 1.4 in the Fiesta? I own this version of the Focus and find that it can lack power especially on the hills!! Do you think that the 1.4 Fiesta is underpowered in the same way?

My parents had the 1.4 version of the Fiesta, whilst we have a 1.6 petrol Focus in the fleet. Both are adequate as Avant says. The Focus is actually a very pleasant drive, no ball of fire but it does the job and 40 mpg. I can't say I've found it short of power, although obviously one has to rev it more than say, our 1.9 tdi. But the upside is its a much more refined engine.

Another downside to electric parking brakes, there is no scale of how much you want the brakes on, its all or nothing and EPB clamp very tightly.

The brake pads will be stuck to the disks. If it sounds like the brakes are releasing you can try pulling away and see if they unstick themselves. This has usually worked for me. You then need to drive the car and do some high speed braking to clean up the brake surfaces,

Dos any one know an easyer way to get the code as it looks like a real pain to take the radio out just to get a number of the back so i can get the code.

Also dos any one know if there is a way to turn the recurulasion on as there is no buton or slider to do it with and the exhaust fumes get sucked in from othere cars when at traficlights.... Read more

Just in case anyone else looks at this thread for help...I sorted it by taking it to my mechanic to ask if I had to smash the lock out would it be better for him to do it and replace it? He looked at me strangely and then proceeded to do the following:

He took off the outside window seal, rolled the window all the way down, sprayed a shed load of wd40 oil sort of mix down into where all the mechanism is. He then kept pulling the handles internal and external and hitting the door around where the external handle is and it worked. Both internal and external handles work and open the door. Sorted....
