I have a 2006 BMW 116i N45 petrol engine with just 42K miles on the car. I got it second hand about a month ago. I drove it to the store about 5 miles that morning came home got back in it 3 hours later and it just cranks but, will not start. Fuel is pumping good. The car was running smooth without an problems or knocking etc. I also had it serviced oil changes etc 3 weeks prior and also put new spark plugs in. I plugged in code reader and got the P0011 code regarding cam shaft position forward. Could this be the dreaded chain breaking without any warning signs? Could it just be a faulty cam sensor or vanos solenoid or coils even which are all easy to change myself before towing car to mechanic?... Read more

Railroad.

If the valve timing has moved, even if by only one tooth, you will have a loss of compression, and the sound of the cranking engine will be different from before. This should be the clue. Incorrect valve timing can be checked with a vacuum gauge. Assuming this is not the case check for HT spark st the spark plugs, and fuel injector switching. Use your scantool to check for an engine speed signal, which if isn't present will mean no spark and no fuel.

Central Milton Keynes is absolute garbage on almost every level these day's but 'they' still come, by their thousands, particularly at the weekend! (Scratches head...)

"If you build it, they will come." Is it coincidence that Milton Keynes rhymes with Field of Dreams? I think not!!

Hi all,

my car was parked on a main road, someone hit it and then drove off, it caused £2000 damage, a passer by managed to get a reg plate, i had to go thru my insurance to get it fixed while investigations took place. Just been contacted by the police who are now saying even tho the vehicle has no insurance and the registered driver has no license the only thing they can prosecute him on is failing to responded to a legal document the police sent asking him to provide details. So because no one can prove he was actually driving he will get away with it, surely this isnt right as i always thought the registered keeper should be ultimately responsible as if not what is the point in having a registration document in the first place. Any advice would be gladly welcomed, thanks. Read more

As sombody whose daughter of similar name suffered a similar fate I think the offending vehicle should simply be put in a crusher and call it quits. I can't believe that somebody cannot be held responsible for this.

After months of trying to sort this problem, I would appreciate any advice that you can offer please.

I have a very loud groaning/moaning/grinding sound when turning the wheel at any speed including when stationary. I have had my steering rack reconditioned by Kelly engineering Birmingham, I have had two reconditioned power steering pumps fitted. Have replaced the reservoir and all the power steering pipes with new parts.... Read more

Hi and thanks. In the reservoir there is a plastic tube sticking up from the bottom. Is the filter inside this tube?
Thanks

Depends what engine you have fitted. If it is a 1.3 ,then it will be the Fiat multijet engine with a chain.

Interesting video here from the US Motor Trend team. They investigate the effect on power & torque output of hammering dents into aftermarket exhaust header pipes, in order to make them fit into engine bays. The results are surprising.

Hi, every time I've had a car problem it's been solved by this site so thought it's time to sort out with my latest car issue.

I noticed a bit of a whining noise a few days ago (could have started longer ago, but music drowns it out) happens in neutral or in gear and gets louder with revs (no noise when idling)

This evening whilst at traffic lights I put the car in neutral and then when I went to put it in drive - nothing happened. Turned the engine off and back on again and it went into drive ok. The car then went into limp mode not going past 30mph and not letting me use the semi auto gears.

After I got to my destination the car was left for 20mins or so and on starting again it allowed me to use the gearbox normally. A few miles in to the drive home however it went back into limp mode and the engine management light came on. Car as before would get me to about 30mph until the very end of my journey where I got stuck at the bottom of my hill - the car revved but had no pull. After leaving the engine off for a minute I was able to limp up and home.

Just before xmas I had the ac compressor replaced, no other issues though in the year I've had it. Mileage about 140k - it hasn't had a service in about 2 years.

How terminal does it sound?

First thing to check would be the trans fluid level. However ,there will be a dipstick tube but no dipstick. You will need to find an MB specialist that has the correct workshop dipstick.

Front sidelights not working on yr 2000 1.8 Honda Accord. One stopped working first and a few weeks later the second one stopped too. I replaced both bulbs, but no luck. Anyone had the same problem or know where's the likely fault? Thanks. Read more

I mean the main connector that runs to the bottom of the headlight. You can't reach this without removal of the bumper. It may just be possible to access these connectors if the plastic undershields are reomved.I would re-check the bulbs before doing any further major surgery.
