I went to start my car the other day and it went WAHH WU then nothing more, as if the battery were flat. I was in a hurry so I asked my neighbour to give me a jump start, exactly the same WAHH WU as before, after half an hour of trying to jump start the car using another car and another set of jump leads exactly the same. The battery is 6 months old but still I have checked it and am getting good readings from it. People telling me it is the starter motor or altenator. As the car does turn the engine over a fraction I do not believe it is the starter motor nor the altenator. If it were the starter motor then I would imagine it would give me different symptoms and same with the alternator (I am open to being corrected on this belief) Like I say I have checked the battery, recharged it, cleaned the terminals just in case. I do hear a lot of clicks as relays clicking about 10 to 15 seconds after I have tried it. I am just hoping it is something not to expensive. Anyone any ideas????? Most grateful for any clues and help. Oh one more point, before when I have had to jump start my car before I replaced the battery if the connections were just on the car that was jump starting me and not on my battery the car started no problem, however that now is not the case, all I get now is a click. Did you check for faulty brake switch as suggested in your first thread on this subject?

Personally I blame the Blair and Brown Governments.

I can only agree with you, though the clones that replaced Blair and Brown have managed to make even their borrowing look almost frugal, things will take a while to go full circle but full circle they will....

Hello there

Just before Christmas one of the rear wheel bearings failed on on my car (awful loud grinding noise, not just the humming of a old bearing). That particular bearing had been replaced at the end of July (2015) through the MOT. I had presumed it would be covered under warranty but the garage has told me it isn't and along with the bearing the axle stub joint needed replacing. £170 to fix. I feel very aggrieved since in the summer the car was back and forth to the garage half a dozen times as they couldn't diagnose why the handbrake was heating up after they had fixed it following the MOT (this caused me to lose all braking a few times whilst driving - as it happens they had tighten it too tight on the nearside and they only discovered this after replacing the cable and it still happening) and the bearing is five months old. Where do I stand? Do bearings have warrenties, would the axle stub break the bearing?

Thanks. Read more

Hi,

I think you are being treated unfairly. The bearing has failed and caused damage to other parts - which is beyond your control. Therefore they should be repairing this FOC. They can claim the costs back from the bearing supplier as its their responsibility. Don't back down and if they get shirty, tell them you will be taking the matter up with trading standards. You are being fleeced when its not your fault....

No, not for me though. The elderly friend thought his MOT due soon as will soon be 3 years since he bought it, However the car was a few months old when he got it, so upon checking the DVLA site early this morning realised he forgot to get his MOT last september.

Promptly booked an MOT online locally for today.... Read more

Even if the vehicle was in perfect condition they will still use it as an excuse to significantly reduce the pay out. It happened to my relative years ago, They got confused as to which car was due an MOT and MOT'ed the car that had recently been MOT'ed. The car with the just expired MOT was then written off by a Police LDV van. The payout on the car was a fraction of what it should have been and of course they were unable to get an MOT as the car was no longer in a roadworthy condition.

Hence people challenging the payouts via the ombudsman. As you'll see above, a reduction of 10% for a car which is roadworthy but where you forgot to do the test would be regarded as reasonable.

Alternator belt snapped. I replaced this after about 50 miles. When i started car it seemed to rev faster on idle. Fuel problem developed where it seemed air in system? Engine dying then picking up again. Decided to change filter and now I cant get fuel to injector pump. I filled filter housing with diesel, pumped the system but still no fuel. Would there be a non return valve on fuel line? I can hear air coming out of first bleed screw on injector pump when I squeeze the balloon. Having to use pipe pliers as it is quite stiff to press!! Hello all. First time posting so my apologies if I've done anything wrong!

I am in the process of buying a new car and I've narrowed it down to the Nissan Juke or the Audi A1. Finance wise it's coming in at about £650 difference over the course of the contract, but the monthly payments are cheaper on the Audi (£185pcm) than the Nissan (£225pcm) even if the Audi's more expensive over the course of the contract.

Does anyone have any knowledge of either car or, preferably, both? Which would you recommend?

I genuinely enjoyed driving both of them equally so can't really choose. I don't have a gut feeling except that I like the luxury feel of the Audi but I love the weird quirkiness of the Nissan's looks.

The Audi is the A1 Sport 1.0 with no added extras, the Nissan is the Juke Connecta with Safety Pack.

Any advice at all would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks guys & gals!

Juke's are everywhere around here, they must be selling them like hot cakes. Good luck to Nissan, for being brave enough to try innovative design. We had a Note a few years ago and it was faultless and an interesting car. I would have another in a flash and I have only read good reviews about the turbo 1.2.
