Hello

I have a Mondeo which is making a whining/whirring sound, not just under acceleration (ie makes the same sound when foot taken off the accelerator), and is more pronounced at low speeds (10-35mph especially) - the sound resembles the noise some cars make when reversing at more than walking pace. It seems to be more a bit noticeable after 15 minutes into a journey. Any thoughts? Thanks. Read more

S40 Man

I have 2008 mondy. Does it do it if you coast with engine of? If it's a bearing issue it will still do it but if it's gears or similar it won't. I had a whine which was due to power steering. I changed the fluid reservoir and gave it v fresh fluid and it sounds better now. Coasting will also mean power steering pump isn't active so that might give you a clue if it doesn't whine with engine off.

Perfection

I am not a mechanic, but the problem you described is similar to my old Polo 1.0 N reg.

The ignition module may have hair line cracks which then allows moisture to get in. The high voltage sparks is very small not enough sparks when tested. The module is located under the bonnet near windscreen. I think it cost around £50 many years ago....

Forum Dream car?
P3t3r

I have been thinking about what my next car would be and trying to decide what my 'dream car' would be. Sitting in traffic one day, I thought about my current car... it has a heater, air con, a radio, it's cheap to run, realiable and it'll get to 15mph pretty quickly. What more could I want when I'm stuck in traffic? I may have my dream car and hadn't realised it. There are faster cars out there, but it would be a waste for what I do.

If I got a 'better' car it would:... Read more

I would think the first step is to check the trans fluid level, however you may find there is a dipstick tube but no dipstick.Take it to a Merc specialist that has the workshop dipstick.

pullgees

Engine won't start no warning and glow plug light. Called breakdown was told that a relay had blown, towed home.

The relay box is by the battery and relays look hard to get at. First question. Do I need to remove the relay box? Second question. Which one is the fuel pump relay and glow plug? Thanks Read more

pullgees

I've fixed it! It was the inertia fuel cut off switch which was stuck on. I removed it with the plan in mind to bypass it then I chickened out on that idea and put it back on. The fiddling around with it must have switched it off . Everything works now, the relay's not buzzing any more. Brilliant!
