Hi all
Just before I Christmas holidays I was involved in an accident. It was clearly the other parties fault and I made the mistake of not getting any witnesses (plus I was also a bit shaken up).... Read more
if you give an inch the others will take a mile ... do your very best to press your case, and be prepared for a court hearing, (don't be daunted, they are only other people, your insurance may send a solicitor to represent you) which you should approach from angle that the other party is fully to blame - just remember any claim on your policy is likely to increase the premium at renewal, and anyway, why should you take the blame for the lorry driver's error?
Worse case - if you loose you get a claim on your policy, possibly 50/50 split, but you stood your ground and that is important too. (Of course the other party may decide not to pursue the matter, so you would keep your good record)....

Not heard of this issue, does the 1.8 engine not have the proven IB5 gearbox as fitted to countless Fiesta\Focus types over the years? I think the 2.0 has the MTX75 gearbox it was the case on the Focus MK1.
Would interested to here more on this issue...
I realise much will depend on insurance company and other variables : however, I wondered if there is an approximate rule of thumb way to estimate increased costs if buying a car with higher group rating.
For example choosing between a car with a rating of 16 or one of 24 what would the rough cost of insurance variation be. Is there any consistency between premium and range of groups ?... Read more
The insurance group rating system is managed by Thatcham on behalf of the Association of British Insurers, and is an advisory system. Being advisory, individual insurance companies may decide to use either a lower or higher insurance rating for certain vehicles depending on their experience, whether or not that vehicle is one they wish to insure, etc.

Are roads profitable or cheap? Vehicle users pay VED and fuel duty and roads still need subsidy from the taxpayer on top of that.
How much do the roads cost each year and how much VED and fuel duty is taken?

I have two chips (one is more like a deep scratch but caused by a stone) on the bonnet of my car and as it's on a PCP I need to get them repaired before returning the car.
Both have gone down to the metal (aluminium so no rust) I think so quite deep. Will a 'chips away' type operation be capable of affecting a good repair or is it a body shop job? I guess a lot of it comes down to finding a competent person who knows what they are doing. I'm based in Bristol if any one can recommend someone to do this.... Read more
When I got my van bonnet resprayed about 4 years ago it cost £150 at a proper bodyshop.
I've seen some of the 'smart' repair work and none has impressed me personally but, I'm a very fussy customer.

Works both ways. UK is the second-biggest outward investor after the US; also biggest economy for inward investment in Europe.
