The battery on my E92 325i needs to be changed. Reading various forums there is much disagreement over whether the car would need to be reprogrammed when I change it. I would use a bosch S5 96.

When I had a new battery fitted to my 118D it needed to be the correct AGM battery and it needed to be programmed. The BMW alternator (like all modern alternators) charges at a much higher rate than alternators of old and an incorrect battery would be damaged.

Luckily mine was done under warranty (one day to go and the delaer diagnosed a battery issue when the car went in for service - asked if I wanted it doing - daft question).

Moving on a budget doesn't mean sacrificing quality service. I recently discovered a cheap moving company that offers affordable rates without compromising on professionalism. Their cost-effective solutions made it possible for me to relocate without breaking the bank. Despite their budget-friendly prices, they maintained a high standard of service, ensuring a smooth and efficient move.

My Audi 80 usually starts first time but recently has been letting me down by not starting. If left for about 30 minutes it starts again normally. It has been happening over the past year, frequently letting my wife down whilst out in it. I have had it for 5 years. Mileage 40,000. I have had a new coil. It has a spark even when failing to start. I have tried replacing the air ram but it seems to make no difference. Can anyone throw any light on this problem? Also, do you know whether this model has a crankshaft sensor. Read more

Does it have the dreaded electric steering ? If so that's going to be expensive , you need to check out if its electric or hydraulic if its hydraulic it could something simple like a belt or a pump or short on fluid ,any warning lights on the dashboard ?

If you had it less than 3 months the dealer has to fix it for free !...

Water is leaking into the rear and (less so) the front of my 5 door Seat Leon. I can usually aqua-vac about a pint out of the carpets after a few days of rain. The wet side is the side facing slightly up hill when parked on the drive. I've checked the obvious like doors and windows shut properly and the drainage holes in the doors seem clear. I can't hear any water sloshing about in the doors either. Any ideas please. Read more

To other people : Do that generation of Leon suffer from the bulkhead / pollen filter drain problem, or was it solved by then ?

To the Original poster : it used to be a common fault on VAG cars that a drain hole under the pollen filter would block up. When it rained, the filter box would fill up until overflowed - straight into the passenger compartment.

Just got this car and like many things about it. However there is clearly a problem : I thought that there was an auto box problem but the more I drive it, the more I am convinced that the problem is between the box and the wheels in the 'final drive' or thereabouts.

The phenomenon is as follows : The noise level (this car is well sound-proofed and I have new tyres) somewhere starts to increase from 55 mph. It's a low frequency rumbling noise which increases with vehicle speed rather than box revs. At 65 mph a bit more noise and if I am cruising at 80+ mph with cruise control on (in D or S or M box mode) the noise is definitely higher and whatever is causing it starts to shake the car a bit. The more I drive the more the shaking can increase and the noise starts to boom around the cabin of the car. When the phenomenon is in full swing, if I depress the accelerator fully down to go into 'kick-down', the car cannot accelerate normally and seems 'blocked' - shaking can increase even more at this point. Any ideas ? Many thanks. Read more

Two weeks ago filled up with oil. About 3 days later coming off a roundabout a large flume of blue smoke came from exhaust. Car seemed to lose some power but then drove on and smoke disappeared. Was fine for about 2 days then same thing, coming of a roundabout car blue another large flume of blue smoke. This happened again this morning, again coming off a roundabout. Checked oil and is now at quarter full. I am not really knowledgeable about engine problems but if anyone could tell me what is causing this and if needing repairs is it expensive. Thanks Read more

Worn piston rings is so common with the 1.6 petrol engine. The 8v engines seem to worse than the 16v. I'm guessing you have a Z16SE engine? They are no too expensive, but labor rates may be high as it's "quite a job". May not be in your case, but I would run a compression test. I had some rings for my astra from either LMF or LEC, I cant remember which. I'm sure they could help.
