Hi everybody I'm looking for advice regarding a situation that has arisen over the weekend. Ive had my car serviced on Friday thinking it was now due but the local garage that did this strongly believes this was the cars first ever service (at 50k miles!) the garage said it still had the original spark plugs (the garage was amazed they still worked) and the oil filter was in pieces. When I bought the car in august 2014 I was told it was going to be given a service before I collected the car and the book was stamped to indicate this. I am really unhappy about this and would never of bought the car knowing they had not serviced it. After looking into things I have found out now I cannot sell the car knowing it has false history. The car was bought from motor depot. Where do I stand as I feel I was mis sold the car? Chris Read more

If nothing else this is another tale that highlights the importance of getting an annual oil and filter change performed, and a quick once over by someone competent if nothing else, 2 years is too long by exactly twice.

Depending on where bought i would never assume that the best of oils or filters have been used when its given its typical quick oil service before sale handover, so would be looking carefully at the oil and filter (assuming its got a dipstick and i do not want a car without, ever) and not be comppletely happy until my own oil had found its way in.

Stevie Ford Mondeo,

There isn't a keycode generator for producing codes for Ford radio serial numbers that begin with a "V", I'm afraid. It's only possible to produce codes for "M" serial numbers....

I have run this car from new with few problems. However, I have been unable so far to find a solution/company who has been able to offeer any repair/replacement since this manifested itself some 2 years agao. By process of elimination it has been diagnosed that a sticking valve in the abs valve block is causing residual pressure - in one brake line only - that to the right front disc - so that the pads are always in contact with the disc. Immediately following a few miles drive, it is impossible to turn the r.h. road wheel by hand when jacked up; if the vehicle is left for an hour or so it is then just possible with considerable effort to move the road wheel round. No warning light appears on the dash so no defect is detected. Ford Company, Ford main dealership and so far remanufacturing companies have been unable to help but those who have examined the vehicle agree that it is most likely that there is one sticking valve in the valve block. The system is by Teves and appears to be unusual in the sense that the valve block is separate from the pump and accumulator by being located on the opposite side the engine compartment to the other components of the system whereas all pictures I have seen of Granada abs systems show the valve block securedp to the other components. I believe the 1990 Granada was the first to have abs; total vehical mileage is about 130k. Can you help? Read more

Are you sure it's not something as simple as a sticking piston in the caliper ?

I'd agree with Andy.

Unless every single one of those jobs on the advisory MOT sheet have been done (and done to a high standard), it's one hell of an expensive 13/14 year old car....

Hi all,

I'm waiting for my new 120d M Sport to be built and was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction regarding GAP insurance.

I've been reading about some horror stories when it comes to GAP insurance whereby the company appears to be legitimate however, when their "net worth" was researched they only have £500 in the bank.

So for my new car, so I go with the one BMW are offering or source my own - have you guys got any good suggestions for companies that offer the same service but at a cheaper premium?

Cheers,
Lee. Read more

Hi, I have a mercedes s320, automatic, year 2000 with 110500 miles on the clock. It is a great car but recently failed on me. It looses power under high eceleration (ie, going up hills) It smokes heavily and is burning oil at a high rate. I have done a "basic" presure test of the cylinders to see if it is loosing presure and if the o rings are worn. There is sufficent pressure. The spark plugs were clogged with black residue which I presume was from the burning oil. I replaced them. I have read on the internet something about an oil pressure relief valve that can get blocked and cause some of these symptoms but I am not sure at the moment. Any help, advise or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Bert2215 Read more
