I am thinking seriously about buying a classic hobby car. I am retired and I do not have unlimited funds. I am limited by the width of my driveway which meand the car must not be wider than 1.6m (give or take). I like the look of a Wolseley 1500/Riley 1.5 or possibly a BMC ADO 16. I am 1.86m tall (6'1"). Are there any tall drivers out there who can give me some guidance eg suitability of my selections or viable alternatives?. Many thanks, Ken Read more
Thank you focussed and all of the other enthusiasts that took the time to reply to my query. I feel I have a better grip on how to proceed from here onwards, and look forward to having a classic in my garage come spring/early summer. Your input has been sincerely appreciated.

Agree with most posts here, but it doesn't always go to plan. I did my homework prior to buying a new Focus ST. Armed with a broker price, with a list of extras and the fact I would take on finance, I duly went into a Ford dealership. When it came to talking about the broker price and if they could match, the salesman just said no. Wouldn't budge. Didn't even offer to speak to his manager. A handshake and a flea in my ear. I would have gone straight to the broker but I had a part ex to offer. Good luck if it works for you.
Deals organised through brokers often include a px offer, albeit probably low - but there's always WBAC or selling privately.
Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum, so I thought I'd introduce myself before I get into my question. My name's Ammaar Afridi and I'm from birmingham!! I'm not really a car "expert" per se, however, I do have a decent amount of knowledge. ... Read more
Thing is, is he talking tools for grinding back, sanders, etc. or is he talking about chemical fillers, paints, etc ?
For the first set, any DIY shop will sell basic tools that will do a job decently. ...
I see that the christmas breath-testing results for Wales have now been published.
My Subaru Forester was struck from behind by a Mercedes Vito van at an offset angle. Subsequently there was a vibration coming through the transmission. The garage is not prepared to state that the damage caused, which could mean writing off the vehicle, was definitely the cause despite the fact that the car was fine beforehand. It seems clear that a hard knock to a towbar that is fixed directly to the chassis thereby bypassing the crumple zones is very likely to have a damaging effect. What is your opinion / advice please. If the car is an uneconomic repair it will more than likely be written off.
What the garage says will have no bearing on the decision....
I've owned from new a 2010 T5 2.0TDI 140 that has now covered 130,000 miles. It has developed a rattle recently when depressing the clutch pedal slightly and disappears when pedal fully depressed. Some say flywheel others say bearing. Has anyone had the same fault? It still changes gear OK.
Required new DMF & clutch. VW Dealer was very helpful and discounted the parts & labour.

Is it just me or is the standar of driving from mini cabs getting worse?
In the last few days I've had several near misses with mini cabs. This evening a mini cab decided to do a u turn in to my path. He was lucky that the lorry was empty as I wouldn't of been able to stop so quickly in the wet if it was fully laden. Maybe it's just the ones from south east London or are they just as bad all over the country? Read more
Is it just me or is the standar of driving from mini cabs getting worse?
Sadly, I think the standard of driving is getting worse for the majority of all drivers....
Can you get a ticket for bus lane on a bank holiday? Not in central London. Thanks. Refusal said 'unless it says so on signs'? Read more
A bus lane without any times is always enforce. A bus lane with times is enforce according to those times including bank holidays.
Unless you find one that says otherwise, which i've never seen....
I'm not clear whether the van was insured by you or your employer. Either way though I think you will have to disclose. It is very likley that the information will be on the insurers' shared database.
As an example of this I've recently had quotes to renew my own policy. I'd misheard a question about claims and not told them about an incident in December 2014 where I'd acheived 100% recovery. Not only did that come up but so did 'something' in April 2013. Whatever it is there's no record on either my or my partner's policy. ...
