Is it just me or is the standar of driving from mini cabs getting worse?

In the last few days I've had several near misses with mini cabs. This evening a mini cab decided to do a u turn in to my path. He was lucky that the lorry was empty as I wouldn't of been able to stop so quickly in the wet if it was fully laden. Maybe it's just the ones from south east London or are they just as bad all over the country?

Think they've always been bad to be honest.

I've always been able to spot a mini cab by the poor driving standardsit just seems like they'r getting worse. Whenever i see one the driver is more often than not on the phone, they'r impatient and seem to believe the rules don't apply to them. But lately from my point of view is that their getting worse.

Very difficult to comment on this without some sort of 'ism/'ist accusations so i won't, save to say it's only going to get worse not better.

Be assured there are one or two old established PH companies still who pride themselves on courteous behaviour and their driving standards are impeccable.

One such company in Wellingborough only runs pure white cars which can be spotted from miles away, not only for their cleanliness but how well and defensively driven they are, my daughter in law uses them regularly for airport and business journeys when she has to be at places on the dot before the trains are running, whether the boss, his son, or one of the hand picked drivers comes for her, the driver will knock on the door, carry her bags, escort her and she'll be asleep in professionally driven comfort in the small hours within minutes of being collected from their home...and he won't need an electric toy to tell him how to get to where she's going either.

You don't get that sort of service round here. You're lucky if the driver can speak English.

Last time I had to get a mini cab it was 4 am the car wouldn't start and I had to get to work. The driver turnd up had very limited English and kept asking for the post code but wouldn't take my answer to the post code doesn't work in a satnav ill direct you.

I can't say I've noticed the standard of taxi driving has got worse. Round here it's been absymal for years.

When driving my own car I come across laziness in the form of lack of signals and not bothering to park properly when dropping fares, disdain for other road users shown by cutting up, pulling out - you name it.

As a taxi passenger I've been subjected to highly uncomfortable rides - rough gear changes (how long does a clutch last?), harsh braking, high-speed cornering.

All of this from people who are in effect professional drivers.

That's the problem: in any job, there's a world of difference between a 'professional' and someone who does it for a living.

Sadly, I think the standard of driving is getting worse for the majority of all drivers.
