Anyone got the new Nissan Pulsar - car of the year?
Any problems?... Read more
They're really only a parking aid being disabled above walking speed. But one nice thing with the Qq's four set up is "helicopter mode". Let's you see at a glance the nearside lines to see that your in the space properly. Saves leaning over and opening the door or fiddling with the n/'s door mirror.
I agree that with a lot of modern cars the rear visibility is a bit challenging. I recall my 64 Corsair it had terrific all round visibility.
Hello,
I have a silver 2003 Rover 25 1.4 Impression with 72,000 miles on the clock
The MOT expired back in January and the car has a SORN as we barely use it
I am getting things going to sell the car on and people keep telling me "just scrap it", but I am loathe to do this when someone else could still use it as a cheap first car or backup family runner.
When I first made an attempt to get it started after a few months out of action it had a flat battery after first thinking it was the engine immobiliser (and paying for the eka code and using the key turn sequence). Once that was charged, I got everything up and running, new battery in key fob and alarm reactivated ok.
However, a few days after getting the enginge going and the central locking working properly, the alarm started tripping of its accord, sometimes late at night (!). After a few more occasions it got progressively worse and my only choice for sanity was to leave the battery unplugged.
On the day I was booked in for an MOT I found after reconnecting the battery, the alarm would not deactivate easily and the engine failed to engage. After countless efforts with the key fob and trying the eka code sequence with door key (and using the method to add an extra turn on the 2nd and 4th numbers) I was unable to start the car again and had to cancel the MOT.
I am now stuck with a car I can't move and I suspect the alarm system might be at fault, does anyone have any suggestions or should I call in the scrap merchants? Happy to accept any early offers on the car (based in Harlow) for anyone willing to help get in going which normally would fetch £500-700 on autotrader

Interesting article from the Telegraph: A driver selling his car has been banned from driving because the would-be buyer took it for a test drive while uninsured, and was killed in a crash.

How else would you assess the clutch, steering, gearbox, etc?
If I was thinking of buying a model I was unfamiliar with, I wouldn't start looking at a private seller's. The sort of cars I sell privately would most likely be familiar to any interested buyer. If they were concentrating during the test drive they would get a fair idea of the condition of the car - clutch, steering, gearbox and everything else....

Damn, you beat me to it, let's hope they have more available. I hope these people are run by Vance, he is such a top bloke.
Hi everyone,
I was hoping for a bit of advice.
I'm looking at a Mk3 Mondeo Zetec 1.8 tomorrow as I'm looking for something to keep me going for a few months.
The car description sounds ok bar one thing - ABS light is on. Having read around mondeos I realise that its most likely to be wheel sensors which are cheap to replace. But there's also a chance I suppose that the worst case scenario is the ABS system needing replaced at v high cost.
Given the probabilities, is it worth the risk of buying the car?
Or are there any simple tests I can do while examining and driving it tomorrow?
Cheers

Firstly,an abs light on is an Mot failure. There are no real simple checks that can be done yourself. A diagnostic test is really the only way forward to establish in what area the fault is located. On the plus side, these Mondeos are very robust and there is an abundance of s/h spares. If the car is otherwise in good condition and the price is sensible, then it is probably worth a punt.
Just got back off holiday to New Orleans and wanted to share a few photos of the hire car that Hertz gave me at the airport.
It is a Chevvy Impala with a 3.6 litre V6 engine. It was nearly new with only 3000 miles on the clock. It had leather seats(all electric),a huge touch screen interface with bluetooth music streaming and was extremely quiet on the road.I was very impressed with this car and wished they sold it in the UK because i would buy one in a heart beat. The only downside was a computer mpg readout of 16 mpg round town!.But petrol was only £1.50 a gallon and it only cost £30 to fill the tank!... I agree HB, although it would probably be safer to use a green left-pointing arrow, on all the time except for a pedestrian-crossing phase.
I need new tyres and have tried BMW main agents and none are available in the country. The size is 215/40/R18/85Y. The original make was Bridgstone but they are no longer making this size. I have been told that Dunlop will be making some but they will not be available until June 6th at the earliest and lots are on back order for main agents. I phoned BMW customer services and they said they were not aware of any shortage. I have also tried local tyre dealers and on line only companies. What worries me is if a tyre is punctured and not drivable then how can a replacement be supplied if there is no stock available. Can I fit 225/40/18 which are readily available?
The rears which are 245/35/R18 88y are stocked and available but I need 4 tyres from the same manufacturer. Any sugestions? Read more

Pirelli's only, the cheaper ones listed are older stock as noted, don't know if these are of any use to you....beg your pardon , the only Y rated are Dunlops....
Hi there all, I am new at this and am doing this in the hope that someone can help me/us.
I have a Peugot 307SW Diesel, HDI 110. I am probably going to sound a bit selfish at first but I can promise this is not the case. I love my car and I love my dad. I returned a couple of days ago from a 2 week holiday to find that my 76 year old father had decided to give me a nice surprise and change the EGR valve on my car knowing that I had had problems with it for quite a while. He has always done the work on our cars but in recent years due to age has simply stuck to the occasional oil and filter change. It turns out he was told the EGR valve on my car was at the rear bottom part of the engine and that the engine had to be partly removed to access it,( this later turned out to be incorrect). To cut a long story short he has changed the valve but on reassembling the engine clearly something is not right, the engine sounds awful as if it is blowing or has a broken exust and when pressing the excelerator fully the rev counter doesn't even touch the 3000 mark. He is gutted as he feels he has made matters worse for me and I cannot afford to take her to a garage. He is determined to solve the problem but to try and help him can anyone please give me a guide line as to what the problem could be. He knows I need the car for work and feels he has let me down,,,,,,,,,,,,, please please please,,,,,, can anyone help !!!! Read more
I'd say something is probably not reconnected properly, so its a case of just re-tracing your steps, looking for unplugged or damaged / wrongly connected pipes.
In fairness, the Haynes manual mentions about removing the engine, or undoing the engine mounts and bringing it forward. Its a pig to get at in any variation of the 307 diesel....
Just a curisoity question really. Had a big old trailer hooked up to the Berlingo a while back to help with a house move and while it was attached and we were loading up I noticed the driver's door was clipping the top of the sliding door. I thought some wind had caught it and bent the mounting points/hinges.
It seems fine now so I just wondered if the trailer was distorting the chassis slightly.... Read more
Good point GB - at first I thought you were being very charitable with the 'intended to bend' hypothesis ;D
"Does it bend back afterwards?"
"Oui"
"Tres bien. Continuer"
I've had a string of 9-5 estates. The first was a petrol auto, which was a bit thirsty. The second was a 3.0tid which was a bit disastrous as it had DMF and sensor problems. Since then I've had two 2.2tids which have been excellent. The engine is a bit gruff, but from inside the car you don't get too much noise, it's well sound-proofed. The first was a manual, the second an auto which clips a few mpg off. the second one needed anew EGR valve, but it takes about five minutes to change it over.
Seats are very comfortable and you get the best comedy cupholder in the business. The exhausts seem to last for ever. They tend to eat rear tyres. MikeH's comments are all spot on....
