A few tips i have learned while driving in America.
1. Petrol nozzle is black and diesel nozzle is green.Exactly opposite to the UK.You have to prepay for your fuel as well which is fun when your trying to fill the tank to max and you don't know how much its going to take.
2. Stop signs mean STOP. Do not slow down, look both ways and then continue, like a give way sign. You have to come to a complete stop.If its a 4way stop then you go in the order you all arrived at the junction. If you happen to get to the junction at the same time you have to work it out between you as to who goes first.(The people in Louisiana are very usually very courteous!)
3. You can turn right on a red light(as long as its clear!)
4. You cannot overtake a school bus when they are loading or unloading(a flag like thing sticks out of the bus). This applies in both directions,so you have to stop on the other side of the road as well(unless there is a central reservation).
5.Most people drive in the middle lane on the freeway. At first i thought this was weird but their inside lane quite often just filters off to the right and if your not paying attention you will end up driving off the freeway.
6.Americans can undertake and overtake. This method works very well and i don't know why we cannot adopt it over here.
7.If it starts to rain and you have to put your wipers on then you have to put your headlights on as well.(This might be a law only in Louisiana i don't know).
Feel free to add other tips and apologies if most of you already know these but i had to learn the hard way.
