I am seeking advice about a used car I purchased on 30/01/15 for £2000 on debit card. The garage had told me that they have given it a service and it was ready to go. I asked when the cam belt had last been changed and 3 separate people who work at the garage assured me 100% it was a cam chain so didn't need doing. However on the morning of 02/02/15 my partner came to start the car and it made a strange noise. He stopped trying to start the engine immediately. He called the garage where we bought it from and explained what had happened which is 47.7 miles away. (we have only covered 97 miles total). They informed him that it would be covered under warranty but it was our responsibility to get it back to the garage. My partner contact his breakdown service which did not cover this as the would only take the vehicle to the nearest garage unless we upgraded. We took out further breakdown cover at an extra cost of £101.49 to have the vehicle recovered back to the garage where it was purchased from. On the 4th February the vehicle was inspected by the AA who advised us that the water was frozen in the engine (photo proof) it was then recovered back to the garage it was purchased from.... Inform the garage that they can either give you the car back - FULLY repaired, and with you paying absolutely nothing, or they can give you a FULL refund. Any other outcome is unacceptable to you, and will result in you taking the garage to the small claims court.

Best to do it in writing - send it by email, but also a copy by post, recorded delivery. Inform them that ALL communication from now on is to be by email or post, as you feel there has been a 'breakdown in trust' over any verbal communications (it sounds a lot nicer than calling them a bunch of lying toerags)....

Having purchased the SEAT Alhambra 1.9tdi 2000 I'm gutted to find that my mechanic has listed expensive faults with it. There is an obvious intermittent loss of power to the engine where it feels like there is literally nothing in the engine. Also the brakes are unresponsive- not completely failing but need really pushing to stop. There is no power to 3 of the electric windows and a terrible noise when steering.

My mechanic wants me to bin the car but has advised I replace the vacuum pump, maf sensor and belt tensioner to bring the car back online. Its not that I don't trust him but he's sooo negative.... Read more

Hi There,

I was absolutley amazed at your inclusion of a jocker juggling chain saws & the concise/stilted 'EXPERT'advice rendered in the article of the 14/02/2015. (G.P. Dartmoor) It is not so simpilistic as 'emulsification' -the inclusion of BE into petrol & used in engines built before 2006 degrades the tanks, fuel lines & fuel seals, pumps, carburettors, early fuel pumps & injector rails. ... Hello i have a leak on the power steering rack its where the inner track rod end goes into the rack. I replaced the inner track rod arm and now its leaking i didnt have the right size spanner to do it up so used a set of stetsons. Is there a seal inside which i could have damaged or is it a new steering rack. Also are all the steering racks the same for the petrol models and diesel as if a new steering rack i cant find one for the petrol locally. The car is the 1997 model. Many thanks Read more

Has anyone realised you don't actually need to own the make or model to submit an owners review? You can just take a road test of a make you don't like then put in a rubbish review. HJ, is this an exception to prove the rule? Well I objected twice as that seems offensive to me, and it's still there. 95% of genuine owners disagree with the 'tester', including HJ. Read more

Hi I'm new to the site and wondered if anyone has any experiences of using a broker called uk car discount.
I've googled them and I see articles have been done on them in honest john and the telegraph but these are both quite old. Most reviews on forums are quite old too.
Their offer is better than Carlow and drive the deal which seem to get lots of favourable comments
Thanks for your help(sorry if his topic is being repeated) Read more
