Right my 2001 Focus 1.6 ghia is being an teenager again and throwing a sulk.
The revs are being erratic again or idling at 1k.
In the past year I have changed the breather hose, icv, ht leads, plugs, speed sensor (Twice) and coil.
Please help. Getting frustrated now.
I am to believe it may be an issue with the TPS as this may cause similar issues with the idle. There is no EML on or any errors reporting with my scanning device.
Any help would be great.

Citroen, unlike almost any other car maker, indellibly stamped it's place in the history of the car when it launched the ID/DS. Intrinsic was the double chevron, one of the most easily recognised identifiers on a car. And now they have been removed, and one might earnestly wonder why Citroen would give itself such a massive identity crisis. It's akin to starting from scratch making cars, in a ferociously fierce market place, and am i right in thinking this is only a tizzed up version of a C5? And this weeks tizz will be next weeks tack. I wonder if a lack of ride quality is down to a cruddy steel suspension? No doubt much cheaper to make than the 'magic carpet ride' delivered by their oleo-pneumatic suspension. Seems Citroen are mindlessly and inexorably dragging themselves right back into the middle of anodine 'also-ran' 'lost in the crowd' car makers. Read more
I get the impression Citroën are gunning for the old Saab market with this larger DS. Slightly quirky alternative to the usual Germans based on a mainstream parts bin. Power to their elbow. It might not be to everyone's taste, but I welcome something different. If they've really sorted the suspension issue that blights the old 5, it could be a very nice car.
I'm hoping to get some advice and recommendations as feeling completely lost as to which car to choose. I sold my old beloved 01 plate Renault Scenic around 9 months ago. After toying with idea of a berlingo type car I eventually ended up with a Ford C-Max. Unfortunately I've ended up with a dog of a car that's given me nothing but trouble, and that I don't really like the look or feel of. After the 10th repair I'm now planning to cash in my chips on the c-max (with a potential loss of around £2.5k) so I'm back to square one. I loved the Scenic but newer models are plagued with big electrical problems. Can anyone recommend anything similar? I'm now in two minds whether to go newer and buy on hp or older and buy privately. Any recommendations appreciated. Read more

As the title suggests, I want to replace the cat on my mk4 fiesta myself. I've had a look but i can find anything on google about doing this.

My daughter has acquired a Ford Ka, 2002, which has an after market radio. We now have the option to replace an original Ford Ka - RDS 5000 model radio, but would need to identify the security code for it. The Serial number is - M019112.
I am would like to ask if anyone is able to identify the code for this unit.... Read more

Hi All,

Whole point of my post was to invite people to decide/define what is better - if I wanted to make a blanket statement then that's what I would have done.
If you're running cars only within warranty periods/on lease/take it to the main dealer for everything then you will no doubt like the extra economy (in most cases) and lower tax and think successively more modern cars are better.
If you're running cars outside of warranty/to higher mileages/like to do a lot of your own repairs and maintenance then you may disagree that modern cars are better and feel that extra mpg and lower tax doesn't outweigh larger repair bills and more reliance on garages/main dealers.
As for my friends Passat it was everyday average use without mistreatment - same as for my Passat-yet the interior of his car looked like a car that had done double the mileage of what it actually had done. And there's really a lot you can do to prevent seats sagging and plastic coatings wearing off contacts points such as the radio controls.

My VW Up is almost three years old, passed an MOT yesterday and the warranty in soon up. Are there any downsides to independent garages? I used a local one four years ago, he was very good. My concern is access to parts so the car could end up off the road for longer, or returning when parts arrive.
My past experience is that big faults appear at ~8 years, before then it is things like brakes and wheel bearings. Read more
