Just had an MOT failure on emissions for a high lambda reading of 9.998! Given that I understand the normal range is 0.97 to 1.03 this figure seems non-feasible. Last time it was 1.002. Any ideas anyone? is the testing station's equipment faulty? Read more

I once had a car fail its MOT on emmisions. The garage said it was not adjustable and I needed to take the car into the main dealer. They tested it, said it was absolutely fine and gave me a read out as proof, no charge. Took read out to the original garage and they simply gave me an MOT cert.

A week later I was stopped at a portable road side emmision testing facility. Car passed with no issues even though I had only travelled about a mile from the office at the time.

Hi

not much of a car person, only ever had a focus petrol to date, but just got a new job thats going to require a 70 mile round trip daily - so about 18,000 miles per year. Journey is about 30% Town, 70% dual carriage/motorway. Also would have to last 2-3 years before considering something a bit better... Read more

I did similar miles for about 6 months in my 2008 Focus 1.6 Petrol, averaged 39ish MPG in doing so. Maybe stick with what you have and buy something nicer in a few years?

unfortunately i got rid of it a few years ago as i just didnt need it due to current job being round the corner from where i live!

Hi I'm New to the forum and was after a bit of advice.

I was in a rear end shunt a couple of days ago. I was at a roundabout about to pull away and the guy wasn't going particularly fast when he hit me. There didn't look like any damage apart from a slight scratch on my bumper but I took his details anyway. He said if there was anything that needing doing he'd pay out of his pocket rather than going through the insurance...(firn by me)... Read more

If it's on contract hire certainly get it checked over professionaly and tell your insurer. Deformed boot floors cause a lot of writeoffs on more elderly vehicles.

Selling a perfectly good car whose only "fault" is failing to meet your economy expectations and buying a new car with supposedly better mpg will never save you money plus the new car will almost certainly also fail to meet your mpg expectations.

Lets assume your Fiesta is doing 40 mpg and you do 15,000 miles a year. If you buy one of your alternative cars you may well increase your economy to 55 mpg but you will never know until you try it over several months....

Toyota Landcruiser Colorado 3.0TD (the older engine) in LWB - these are plentiful and can be had for £3k. Then you have £2k for getting it baselined and in tip top condition.

The older 3.0TD isn't as frugal or powerful as the newer 3.0 D4D engine but those (from 2001) are going to stretch your budget and you won't have anything left over to get a full service and replace some of the ageing components, that will almost certainly need doing....
