Hi, I am considering buying a 2009 Kia 2.0 litre sport. The car has only done 22000 miles with one owner and is only priced at 5500 i dont do many miles probably only 6000 a year but it seems a good deal, what are your thoughts. I am aware it might be needing a cambelt due to the age but it shouldnt need one straight away unless i can get it out of the dealer as part of the deal. Read more

All 2 litre Ceeds (petrol and diesel) were cam belt. The 2 litres were discontinued when the Ceed was facelifted in 2009 for 2 reasons, the engines could not be made Euro 5 compliant and they only sold in very small numbers.

If its a diesel it will have a DPF. The old 2 litre engine used needed one even for Euro 4 wheras the 1.6 was fine until Euro 5 required a DPF by law....

Car cut out again this morning at a junction. Attempted to restart, and took many times of cranking and started and managed to park at a safe place and cut out again.

Call RAC and mechanic asked me to crankthe engine and whilst he uses his hand to bang the fuel tank area. The car car started after a few bang. He said it is a sticky tank fuel pump. He also said there will be no fault being logged, so no need to ask garage to interrogate ECU. Just change the pump. ...

In a street very near to me an elderly gentleman was pulling away from his house and appeared to be giving it plenty of revvs without making much progress. then he changed gear and same, bit further along, way past me got the smell of cooked clutch.

shall i leave anote for him? I don't know him at all so not sure about approaching directly. Read more

Some older people do drive like this for some reason, it's probably better than trying to master some horrid automated manual after 50 years with a clutch, and we tend to forget that older drivers will have been brought up on engines that didn't stall at the drop of a hat and you could easily get up to about 3rd gear and 20 mph on a trailing throttle on some.

However, i can still hear the sound of the huge electric drill screaming in protest echoing round Padstow circa 1972, it turned out to be a little old lady parking an Austin A35, never before or since have i heard a car engine reach such astonishing revs short of at a trackside.

All these functions are controlled by the central timer module which is clipped into the rear of the cabin fusebox.Try disconnecting the battery for 5 mins to see if this restores operation. Also check fuses.

Good point - these things reflect either demand or lack of it. It's worth looking for the special offers: I was lucky and got my Octavia vRS at 0% in time before they stopped it for the vRS (because of demand).

Hi Folks

Just wondering whether anyone could point me in the direction of an online supplier of decent quality alloy wheels? Need a 16 inch five stud, five spoke wheel for my 2007 Ford Focus. I'm going down this route because I don't entirely trust the auction sites to provide me with something which is more round than square.... Read more

Tyres-pnues are quite cheap, better than wheelbase alloys I think. I got 2 alloys from then cheap to replace a pothole damaged one recently.

Hi all

Am about to become the owner of a brand new 64 plate mazda 3 2.0 sports nav petrol, black with all the bells and whistles, and was really excited in getting the car as the test drive was very good.

Was promised the car over 5 days ago, but when it was having its final checks it threw up a fault code.

Dont know if i have a wonky dealership, but it took them 2 days to diagnose the fault, as they hadn't see this code before on a new car, but was finally told yesterday it needs an abs module unit. They say they have raised a job card, ordered the part and will fix it asap. They say they will give me a courtesy car until car is ready.

Now i have said erm.... no i dont think so, i want another car, am not having a car which has this fault before i even receive it.

They have said as the car is registered to me, has tax on it and all the plates etc, its easier to fix this car and will be quicker for me to have rather than sourcing me a new car and de-registering it etc

So need you advice and opinion as what i should do, i thought the abs module problem was on the older mazda3 cars and was due to a manufactorer fault, i didn't expect it on a new car especially one thats never been driven before.

thanks in advance for any help

Not sure this is in the right section please move is necessary

Sounds like you have a decent dealer if they are going to fix it before handing the car over and have hired you a car to use in the mean time.

I just hope they have good technicians who have correctly diagnosed the problem and have the required skills and knowledge to fix it first time.

My next new car will be temporary for me. I will use it for a few months whilst my oldest chid learns to drive and then it will go a member of staff. Then I shall get myself something 'proper'.

Hi

I drive for a living and I see many cars during the day with their fog lights on. I have noticed over the last year that whenever I see a car with one light out, if you keep looking you will see either the out light come on and the on light go out, both lights come on or both go out. Can't understand whats going on here and it never seems to happen with headlights.

Oh yes... talking of headlights, why do we see so many blown bulbs on cars of today, including tail lights and brake lights. There appears to be no enforcement on our roads.

Number plates completely obscured in filth is another common and illegal sight.

plus those who pilot Japanese wallymobiles who drive with foglamps on when there is no fog,

When I had my Japanese people carrier the only Wally's were those who assumed that my front sidelights were fog lights as they were low in the front bumper, it's fog lights were built into the headlamp clusters.

I wrote on 8th Dec. 2013 about the simultaneous demise of the nearside dipped beam and the sidelight. And I replaced both. The car was then seven years old. Although I had replaced the sidelights several times in that period I hadn't had any trouble with the dipped or main beams.

Now the bulb in the dipped beam has gone again and I was ready with a spare which I've installed. The designers of the car should be made to do simple servicing as a feature of their training.... Read more
