I bought this car from new in France in 2012 and would like to register this car in the UK. However, to do this I need to find left dip headlights. This car was never intended for the UK market.
I asked a few French dealers before I left the country but they couldn't help.
If someone might be able to source some headlights for this vehicle, I would be forever grateful as I don't want to part with a car that works perfectly well simply because I can't find a suitable pair of left dip headlights. Read more
Why should the headlight makers be interested in supplying a one-off set of headlights?
HI There
The central locking is not working on some of the doors when i get out of the car click the key the front passanger door and rear drivers side dose not lock is there a fuse or is there a relay some where or is it more sinister ?... Read more
If some doors are working then the fuses are ok.There are no relays in the system.Usual problems with these are faulty lock actuator/latch units on each door or the tailgate/boot rubber release button is faulty
Vauxhall Astra 1.6 petrol Sxi was rear ended at 30+ mph while stationary. Full liability was taken by third party insurance. The electrics malfunctioned and a loud banging noise could be heard when slowing down/applying breaks on the short journey home. The car was towed away a few days later as the battery had burnt out and without the battery being charged or replaced and the car being tested a repair estimate was submitted and approved.
4 weeks later the rear end repairs had been completed but unsurprisingly the car would not start.; a new battery was required as the battery would not charge.
Once the battery was replaced electrical faults showed on the dash and were re-set by the garage .
The car was then taken for a test drive and immediately returned to the garage as black smoke was coming from the engine. This was not happening before crash. The car had just past it's MOT a week previously and has been fully serviced every year for the past 7 years.
This has since being diagnosed as crankcase compression and ruled to be non accident related.
A formal complaint has been made, however we are now being told we have to take delivery of the car and argue that regardless of whether the fault is accident related or not (we also dispute the decision made), had the vehicle been correctly assessed it should have been written off.
Essentially, we now have a car that is not road safe and requires > £1000 worth of repairs, after being rear ended through no fault of our own.
Any advice on how to proceed please? Read more
I think its safe to say the crankcase breather is unrelated to the rear end shunt however the rocker box on these engines from memory have a crank case breather built into them which becomes blocked. We have changed a few at our garage and the car runs fine. The engine will run with the oil cap removed and shouldnt be too breathy. A compression check would rule out worn rings. I think from memory the rocker cover from vauxhall is less than £ 100. We also found when we have done this type of work that the hoses going to the inlte manifold are usually blocked with oily Sh$$ and can eithe be removed and cleaned or just replaced if they have gone soft
It's going to cost me £600 to get a full exhaust system on my car at kwik fit, the previous owner did a bodge job on it. It seems like alot of money though, is that a reasonable price? Read more
Me too. Have you checked prices at Euro Car Parts as a general comparison?
Took off a Witter Towbar 15 mths ago from my 2010 Insignia Hatch and will be shortly fitting it to my new Insignia arriving soon.
When removing the Towbar there were 2 bolts bolting the irons from the underside into captive nuts on each side of the chassis and 2 bolts each side from the rear screwing into threads already there by Vauxhall.... Read more

I've been asked to sell this motorbike and I'm looking for advice please about the best way to approach it.
It’s registered as a DMW and the square section frame would suggest that it started out as one.
The back end has been modified to support a Royal Enfield swinging arm and wheel. It’s thought the frame may have originally had a solid or plunger rear end. It’s got two rear sprockets bolted together, but I can’t see the point as it would be impossible to run a chain on the smaller due to it being against the larger.
The front also has Royal Enfield forks and wheel.
The engine’s a pre ’63 Tiger cub unit, although the carb's a 1930s Amal.
The petrol tank’s probably also from an Enfield, but it’s been cut and welded and a separate oil tank formed at the back end. Most DMWs were 2-stroke if I recall correctly.
There’s a natty little chain oiler using one of the rear frame sections.
The registration is, I believe, Carlisle, although I was told it came from Newcastle.
Someone’s obviously spent a tremendous amount of time and effort in putting it together and I’m wondering if it’s got an interesting history.
The engine runs and seems healthy. Oil flows. I've ridden it, although it seems to have carburation problems.
I'm wondering if any value's in the engine and the rest's scrap?
