Whilst driving my clio at night the stop light and battery light flickers on and off, its sometimes that quick that if you blink you miss it. its also doing it during the day but not so noticable. I have taken off all the earth to body & body to engine cables and cleaned them thoroughly. also ther area that they bolt to as well as the battery terminals. therefore I am now confused as to what is causing the lights to flicker. can anyone throw any light on this or has someone experienced the same thing.

So maybe a dodgy connection somewhere? I would check all the connector blocks you can see.

Engine management light on with fault code p1138 relating to the fuel pressure sensor, replaced the pressure sensor and had light reset but after a few kms light came on again with same fault code. The garage suggested a possible wiring problem somewhere bur not specific. Can anyone help me before i spend a fortune on an auto electrician that i may not need ? Read more

PSA engine right?

Only time I've had fuel pressure sensor faults on these is a direct result of metal contamination from the break up of the H/P pump internals....

Would appreciate advice re a clutch/gear/transmission on a ’56 Plate Vauxhall Zafira (B) 1.9TDi. M32 gearbox (concentric slave cylinder), was just over 6 years old, just over 53k at the time of the problem.

Slight glitch when changed from 2 nd to 3 rd . The gears seemed to ‘jam’ and the clutch had to be depressed a couple of times. Thought it was due to very cold weather and the car not having been driven for a couple of weeks.... Read more

Thanks for the reply.

As the garage packed up, I'm on the CC route. Rejected by them so now onto the Ombudsman. Trying to prove to them that the garage (so called experts in the area), didn't act with care and skill, as they didn't diagnose the cause, just tried to fix the resulting problem. Extra labour was about £300

New Adam registered October, has got a electrical fault where the speedo and fuel gauge stop working whilst driving along. The car has been into vauxhall and has had various bits replaced on five different occasions. We have been without the car for weeks on end, car is still with dealer after four weeks they have decided to replace wiring loom! Part due in now in six week, so almost two months of no car. We have talked to vauxhall customer service to reject the car and have it replaced. Vauxhall have refused this as the work is covered by warranty!!! Thinking our next route is ombudsman. Is there any advice? are there new Adam owners out there with same problem or have we been un lucky ???? Read more

I can't claim specific expertise but I doubt the fault is serious enough to warrant rejection - and we don't have "lemon laws" like they do in some US states.

Presumably they are providing a courtesy car while yours is off the road ?

I had my car in for it's 2nd service yesterday and although I have a service plan with Ford I was informed when I arrived by the garage that th evehicle needs an Engine Flush and also the brake fluid requires changing, this seemingly is Ford's recomendation. Bearing in mind the car has done less than 11500 miles since new on 27th Feb2013.

The cost for this work was nearly £65.... Read more

Most manuals will state not to use oil and fuel additives as they can damage cats and other emmision system components. But this has never stopped garages selling the stuff.

Brake fluid changes are a sensible precaution but some makes use 2 and some 3 years changes. Our Ford dealer used to check for moisture with a sensor or something and only recommend a change when the boiling point dropped below their figure but I still had it done every 3 years since the moisure can cause corrosion inside brake components.

Having taken delivery of a new Golf, I'm advertising my old A3 TDI for sale. I was due to see a potential buyer today, however, when I tried to start the A3 last night, to take it for a run and get some diesel, it wouldn't start. It tried but gradually it got weaker until I gave up.

Bearing in mind that I had a new battery fitted approx. four weeks ago, and that since then I've only run the A3 two or three times, I did wonder if it was the battery, even though it was brand new. So, I tried to jump start it this morning but it didn't work. In fact, when I turned the key in the ignition, whilst all the usual lights came on, nothing else happened, it didn't even try to start, no noise at all. Which made me wonder if it's the starter motor and not the battery.... Read more

Faulty earth strap from the battery to chassis - loosen, clean, tighten - costs you nothing other than time - neighbour had that as a soltion to his battery issues.

I noticed a slight smell of diesel a couple of days ago, around my car and I dismissed it as some spilt fuel from the petrol station. It's gradually got worse and is now coming through the vents and into the car.

I had a look under the bonnet tonight after work tonight and although there was no obvious signs of a fuel leak on first inspection, after I'd started the engine and put my foot on the accelerator a big cloud of diesel proceeded to spray up and over the engine block. It's coming from the centre of the engine, behind the glow plugs where the flow/return pipes disappear down into the engine bay at the back.

I ran out of light tonight so I'm going to have a closer look tomorrow. Do you have any idea what it might be? I'm hoping it's just a faulty seal that needs replacing :-/

Just an update, I had a better look today in the light and there's a minute hole in one of the stainless steel flow and return pipes. I've spoke to a ford dealer and they have the pipes for £52,

I've ordered one and taken the faulty one out so I can just switch it when the new one arrives.

Thanks for the comments though

It is counter intuitive, but tyre width does not determine the contact patch size. This is a function of the down force on that axle and the pressure within the tyre. So for different width tyres on the same axle at the same pressure, the contact patches will be the same area....
