Do councils still do the old trick of spending all of their remaining budget just before year end?

I ask because Durham council have been pleading poverty for years yet have implemented roadworks that are generally of very low importance (ie. the latest is a few hundred metre long cycle path...that goes nowhere, yet the roadworks are causing chaos)... Read more

Where I live there is an epidemic of sudden roadworks. Local assumptions are that it's to get that budget spent! St Helens.

I also agree! I had a W reg 2.0 (pre VVTi) as a stop gap a couple of years ago. Ended putting up 20,000 on it in less than a year and kept it longer than I anticipated. Bear in mind it was 13 years old then - it never, ever let me down - an almost heroic performance

Whilst driving my clio at night the stop light and battery light flickers on and off, its sometimes that quick that if you blink you miss it. its also doing it during the day but not so noticable. I have taken off all the earth to body & body to engine cables and cleaned them thoroughly. also ther area that they bolt to as well as the battery terminals. therefore I am now confused as to what is causing the lights to flicker. Totally agree with Peter above.

If it is running on engine oil you need to check your oil level ASAP or your repair bill may suddenly get much bigger.

I bought from New a Ford Transit Jumbo in 2012 which has had various issues ever since. Within a month of buying the van I formally rejected it in writing both to the dealer and the finance compmany as not fit for purpose there was a strange whistling noise, the engine was full of rust and some other minor issues.

They inspected the problem and although they could not tell me what the whistling was assured me it would be covered under warrenty.... Read more

Pity the VRS has not continued in the latest generation of Fabia, but this new trim level was popular in the last model and will provide a more colourful addition to the range, plus it will be no doubt cheap to insure as well Read more

this car runs brillent on petrol, when you switch to lpg, seems as it runs on 3 cylinders any help please Read more

Railroad.

Does the problem occur as soon as you switch over, or does it take time to start running rough? The problem could be due to the hydraulic valve lifters incorrectly regulating the valve clearances. Engines tend to run hotter on LPG than on unleaded, and consequently the valve clearances could be too tight. Change the engine oil and filter, but run an engine flush through first to clean the followers.

I'm looking at buying a budget diesel for driving to work, mostly. Any recommendations for the 2007 Focus 1.6 TDCI, 113k miles? Had it's belt and pump done recently, haven't seen the car yet. Are these engines durable? How many miles more they will pull? Read more

There's a thread here running to hundreds of posts about turbo issues with this engine, as above if its been serviced at least as well or better than specified its got a better chance of proving reliable, basically or worse still underserviced then it might prove an unpleasant and costly move.

If its cheap enough to throw away should it prove a bad 'un then why not.
