Ford maverick 2002 xlt had new alternator fitted and battery light comes on after 30 seconds, diagnostic shows no blocked codes but alternator fault so garage fitted another new alternator, after 30 seconds battery light comes on!. Battery tested ok charging ok, wiring check ok again points to alternator . - Auto Electrician and Garage baffled any help ? Read more

Just wondering what sort of millage you can expect to see out of a modern car that is well maintained?
I've driven lorries that are 5-6 years old that have covered well over 1 million miles and still drive well and I've been a passenger in a A reg Mercedes non turbo diesel that had been round the clock 3 times with the original owner and very well maintained. With modern oils etc and regular maintenance I can't see whow it's not impossible for most modern cars to reach intergalactic starship milage? Read more
The Scooby itself isn't rusty, but the subframes (rear especially) were showing heavy rust and i suspect untreated could easily perforate at about 15 years or sooner in very salty areas, i really went to town on those last spring, hopefull stopped the tin worm in its tracks.
I'm sure you can retard the tinworm, GB, but I've never heard of anything which can stop it altogether once it has started, as moisture still penetrates oily stuff over the years....

my 06 Santa Fe is one of the last before the model changed, if that helps. The driving position is just cramped and that's that.
This morning when I opened the car door, some ice dropped into the car door area which is where hinge/on top of the check strap are.
When I had closed the door; I heard the ice breaking up so I am wondering does it damage the check strap,hinge or door after closing it from the ice.... Read more

Clarification needed. My daughter recently renewing her car insurance was contacted by the insurer to say a search showed that she had had 3 claims in the last 5 years and not 1 as she stated online. In fact, she had one claim against her for a minor bump to a parked car, £480, so she challenged this and was told that 2 windscreen replacements (on different vehicles) counted as claims. This is news to me and I don't recall having to note any such incident when renewing my own insurance. Read more
