I have a question. My dpf light is flashing on my 57 plate mazda 6, bought it a few month ago full mazda service history aside from the service done by the garage I bought it from. Plugged it into the diagnostics machine and it is saying there is a dpf problem. I've heard that it doubles as a service light and madza reset it when they personally perform a service. So my question is if I reset my dpf light myself and there is genuinely a problem with my filter will it come back on? I don't want there to be a problem that I'm unaware of but also don't want to be paying a fortune trying to get to the bottom of this to find that it's just a service light.? Any help on this would be greatly appriciated, bearing in mind I don't know an awful lot about cars. Thanks! Read more

In your case, I believe it is likely that the DPF light is indicating the DPF is nearly full. Read the DPF section in your owner's manual carefully, and follow the instructions.

Also read the section in your owner's manual about the oil level, then check the oil level EXACTLY as it says in the manual. If the oil level is too high then the car needs urgent attention. ...

Can I use an injector pump from a 2003 ford Mondeo zectec 2.0tdci 115 bhp? They are very hard to find second and the pump to buy new is £1500? Read more

Railroad.

I'd be amazed if the pump was the problem, unless its suffered some catastrophic failure that you haven't told us about. It's mechanical and has no communication with the ECM at all. The common rail system has a pressure regulator, a pressure relief valve and a fuel pressure sensor. A fault with any of these would cause a problem, as would a lack of fuel to the pump or broken pump drive. As for the injectors it's almost inconceivable that all four have failed, unless they have suffered abuse. These are controlled by the ECM. They're switched by a high voltage. Do you have a scantool? Have you checked fuel rail pressure? Have you got a good crankshaft RPM signal? Is the camshaft sensor working? Check these before you condemn the pump, which is highly unlikely to be the fault.

One tyre currently losing approx 1lb per day ( measured over 3 days and averaged done three times )

I assume this is as a result of oxidisation. The wheels are all nearly 8 years old. I expect the wheel needs to be sealed. Is it a sensible precaution to do all the wheels when the car is in the garage, or a waste of money ? Read more

I have just entered the figures for my car onto the 'Real MPG' database. The figure based on the last 6 tankfuls was 59.04mpg, as calculated by the mileage divided by the fuel used, ie the accurate way.

Significantly, the average indicated by the on-board computer for the same period was 67.5mpg, some 8 mpg better.... Read more

My 2009 Superb mk I 1.9 tdi does 50-53 on my 64 mile round trip commute - measured using brimmed tank to brimmed tank mileage readings and not the on board computer so I can imagine a much smaller car would be somewhat better.

Out of interest - my on board computer is actually about 3mpg on the pessimistic side!...
