Buy a new set of Duracell batteries from a reputable outlet (such as Maplin) and make sure they are well within date.

Whilst in Maplin, buy a small tin of contact cleaner. Clean the boards and all contacts. With a small pair of fine nosed pliers make sure there is plenty of good contact at the battery...

Hi, I am new to this forum and a relatively amateur at mechanical DIY, most I have attempted so far is front pads and discs.

Agree with Peter N, the only really good alignment tool is the corect gearbox input shaft, and that's what we used to use on our common or garden cars when i was a young chap, other than that by a combination of looking through the centre of the clutch plate into the spigot bearing and looking and feeling with fingertips where the clutch plate sits against its pressure plate as you gradually tighten it up, you will have no trouble getting the plate lined up.

The usual multi alignment tools were such a loose fit that invariably you'd end up doing it by feel anyway....

Intermittent problem with loosing power which appered to go after service three weeks ago including engine flush as mechanic said it hadnt been serviced for a long time. We have only had it a few months and was told it had just been done. After service it ran great but came to use it on 28/12/14 and it wouldnt start. Green flag came out to it couldnt get it goung so towed it home as no one open to look at it. On monday aa came out to it he said it was flooded and got it going I took it to garage who checked it over and put it on diagnostics but all clear had it back tues. It then ran great until thurs when i came out of a shop it wouldnt start even though it run great 10 mins before. Aa couldnt get it goung and took it to garage. Nothing again on diagnostics. No warning lights or messages on dash. They are saying its the timing chain. Not broken but stretched.

Why would it have run so well in the days between. Are they right??? Read more

Could certainly be a stretched timing chain, which is a very common problem on this engine. The only way to find out is to strip out the front of the engine.Another possibilty is a fuel pressure issue. As this is an hpi engine, the fuel pressure is critical ,if it below spec, the engine will not start with running problems.High pressure fuel pumps and regulators are again common failure areas.

I know I've posted this above, but I was wondering if I should include a statement from family who were with me on the day and also is it sufficient to send the notice back record delivery or do I need a professional to certify that I have sent it?

Search for my post in legal matters on a similar problem in July last year - recorded delivery letters to DVLA and the relevant Court sorted the matter.

well being a biker for 50years shall we say i know a wee bit about chain driven engines although nowadays some modern motorcycles are driven with toothed belts although i must admit i would prefer a duplex or even a triplex chain to a single one

Compared to a belt it should save a bit of room as well, which is what they seem to be aiming at nowadays apart from lightness
