Does anyone know what this is? Driving home yesterday a knocking noise suddenly started up, sounding as though it's possibly coming from the middle of the car and this knocking was in all gears and whether in a straight line or going round corners, and the only way it went silent was if the clutch was depressed.
The knocking sped up as the speed increased. Any ideas please?!

No that made no difference.
Seems to need about 5mins before heat registers on thermostat in car then the noise starts up when driving, through all the gears. As the noise goes when clutch depressed, and pressure would be off the cv joint if clutch disengaged, am wondering if it could be the cv?

Bought a car on Sunday from a dealer with no service history other than two MOTs, one current and one from two years previous. V5 was present and didnt really notice the two year MOT gap. Have since searched for and found previous MOTs (apart from the gap) and all mileage seems reasonable.... Read more

Please help. My 2004 makes a noise on start up. Diagnosed as starter motor so new one fitted £215. Noise much worse after repair so took car straight back to be told it needs ring gear. Got new Hyundai ring gear fitted by independent garage £320. Noise still there, so the garage fitted a second hand starter motor to see if the other one was faulty. Car much better but after just 3 days use its worse again. I want to get the car fixed any ideas what else could be causing this?

My son bought a car from a local garage doing a trade in on his old car. The sale completed on the 2nd October but prior to that the garage had taxed the car on his behalf so that he could drive it away. He queried with them whether they could still do that with the new car tax rules but they assured him that they couldn't sell the car untaxed and could still do this. So, he has the tax disc (£275 worth) they obtained on his behalf pre sale. All was lovely and he was loving his car until he got a letter from DVLA telling him he had been pinged on an ANPR camera and was being fined for no tax.
Having established that it appears the money he paid has been refunded to the previous keeper, who surrendered the car in trade several months ago. So he immediately taxed it again and wrote to DVLA.... Read more
If the car has an old style tax disc then it is still taxed on resale and the old tax disc is still transferable as it always was.

My husband got stopped in June 2014 whilst driving a SORN vehicle (he was taking it to the garage), will this has invalidated the insurance? hi all ive got a vauxhall astra mk4..bought second hand,the eml light is on on the dash,hooked it up to the diagnostics and came back with the egr valve prob being dirty or faulty..ive been out today and bought a new egr valve(£45)..fitted it and the eml light is still on the dash.the car runs great when its being driven however when stopping at junctions or lights 8 times out of 10 it will cut out,but will restart straight away. i put new plugs in yesterday. could it be possible that the carb could be clogged up with dirt. i know that i could get the egr blanked of but i dont want to do that as im selling it next month...ant ideas..thanks. Whichever engine is fitted this it will have fuel injection,not a carb.As it runs ok but only cuts out at idle,i would suggest that the throttle body and air intake flap be thoroughly cleaned .May need to remove the complete unit to do it properly.Also make sure there are no split breather or vacuum hoses onto the engine.
