My daughter slammed the boot lid shut trapping a thick woollen scarf in the catch. Now the boot lid will not open with key or dashboard push button, even with someone pushing from inside and pulling the scarf very hard. My idea is to cut as much of the scarf away as possible, then use a pencil slim gas flame to burn away the rest, trying to avoid the plastic components (and suffocation!).
Does anyone heavy a better idea please?. Read more

Hi I'm having problems with my mk4.
It had an engine change as the cam snapped in 2 place and now it's not running right.
Problems are:-
1) if you tap the acceleratior when still the idel revs go up and down and then stall.
2) big puffs of black smoke

I have checked all fuel pipes can cant find any leaks or splits.
I have tried the crank sensor but still no luck....
When buying a car I put a lot of value in the navigation and infotainment system. I am not that interested in speaker power or music but do value excellent sat nav with traffic guidance that changes route and being able to read emails etc on the in dash screen. I appreciate that to some this is a waste of money and there is better value in buying the latest app or portable system but having said all that I prefer the in built systems.
So with that in mind does anyone know of any good web sites that review these systems properly.
Please do not tell me that I am wasting my money and should go and buy a new iPhone or Tom Tom / Garmin but your help in adding any knowledge you may have on these systems would be very much appreciated.
For instance I know the Larest BMW and MB systems are very good in Professional and COMAND trim and they monitor mobile phone signals for traffic avoidance etc.

I've seen a report that a single Rolls-Royce Wraith was among the cars.
It happened 3x in two months, last two was on 26th dec, 2014 while driving m25.. It sudenly loss power, even put accelerate hard, though using 4th gear to get speed, it takes about 5-10 seconds to respond to high speed, if using 6 gear, again it will loss power, then at traffic light, car stall.. Wait for about 10-20 mins, power resume again..
And yesterday, while waiting in a car park, as has kids with me, did not swithced engine off, with on and off the heating, maybe 10-15 mins, the decided to swithced engine off,, after a while when i started, pull away, again, lossing power even 2nd gear, so, pull car in car park again, noticed idle going up and down without touching accelerator.., switched off, check battery, it was 12,7v.. Need help guys,.. Anyway, theres no any light on dash(engine man light) just lossing power.. Please help.. Read more
Its always worth checking for leaking turbo hoses.
I would also take it into a garage and ask them to check for error codes.

I had a dodgy speed camera ticket for some part of London where I had never been for the best part of 30 years. The car involved was on sorn as was using another.

I have the opposite problem - I'd much prefer it if the satnav didn't silence the sound system, at least when I'm playing music. I can see nothing in the manual for the Amundsen system in my Octavia to suggest that there's any choice.

It is a rare car! I bought one in January and it's the most lovely car to drive. It feels lively, but also cossetting. All the toys you have to pay for in the rivals are standard. Oh, and finding a used one is the bargain of the century!
