No, not doing 100mph. But it seems that the world as we know it has been metricated a little more, by stealth. The good old English ton has been completely replaced by the metric tonne in everything I read or see on TV these days. This is fine in many contexts but there is still a valid use for the 2240-pound unit instead of the 1000-kilo one. Who has brought this about, and why? Read more

She has no need of 4WD, but simply likes the higher driving position, powerful and economical engine and simple yet fully stocked interior. Apart from a new model Qashqai, what are the alternatives and are they any better?... Read more
For your own car HB, have you considered the new X Trail? Bigger than a Qq but with many of its attributes.

My wife has a 2007 Mazda 3 with the 1.6l petrol engine with an approx mileage of 55000.
Ever since she bought it a year ago the car has had an annoying and sometimes dangerous problem that the local Mazda agent dismisses as nonexistent. The car starts perfectly and runs smoothly when moving at speed. The problem is when the engine is warm the revs dramatically die as you slip the clutch and pull away in first gear before picking up again. This has resulted in us having to overrev the engine to ensure the engine doesn't die when pulling away from junctions etc. If we let the revs die too much then the car jerks down the road as if a learner is driving until the revs pick up.... Thanks Railroad. The Mazda garage claim to have checked inlet manifold for leaks but said it was fine. Anyone know an independent specialist who would be good at this sort of work around Guildford/Chichester area?
