On 24.12.14 my Fiat Ducato motorhome suffered a total loss of power as I was going round a roundabout. Fortunately I was travelling at slow speed and was able to coast the van into a side road. On checking, I found diesel dripping from the engine bay but could not see anything loose. i contacted the RAC and a patrol came to my help. Investigation revealed that there was a fuel leak between the top of the fuel filter and main housing. The patrolman removed the housing, checked the o-ring and put the housing back. I was able to complete my journey, but always concerned a leak would develop.

This is the second leak I have suffered - in July 2012 the van was serviced and within 3 months a leak had developed. The garage could only solve the problem by replacing the complete housing at a cost of nearly £210.... Read more

The risk of fire is very small as diesel is nothing like as volatile as petrol, another advantage of running diesel.

I've just bought a new top-end motorhome from a well established dealer who imports newish LHD campervans from Germany. They come from a very reputable German dealer which is one of the largest sellers of the brand in the country. I suspect that they may be hire models, which are moved on at the end of the season.

My motorhome was advertised as 'Registered in April 2014'. It had about 6500 miles on the clock and its tyres and appearance are as would be expected from a vehicle that has done a low mileage.... Read more

I went to buy a motorcycle - I phoned beforehand and the dealer said they were just unpacking it from the crate. When I arrived, the frame number showed it was about two years old. I trid to get a deal and although they dropped the price they also dropped the price on my trade in. I didn't buy it.

The age of the 'new' bike was just a bargaining deal. I would guess that a lot of 'leisure' vehicles are a fair bit older than the registration would suggest....

In my 2005 1.9 TDi PD 100 passat, 95k, the thermostat failed open about 6 months after buying it

The car ran cooler than normal (of course), and after between 500 and 1000 mile later, I replaced the thermostat. The car runs well now as it did before with no notable running issues, no smoke, good starting, idle OK and pretty steady... Read more

Very stylish but will that sharply dipping roof line put off some, not too keen on the wheels either looks a bit like a circular saw. I'm really looking forward to the estate version as well that should be quite something!!!. A number of years back Quentin Wilson was one of those campaigning about UK car prices compared with Europe. Just hear a neighbour's grandson recently bought an Audi A3 for £10,000 less than he would have done here. To my mind new car prices do seem to be getting too much. So, do others think we are being ripped off/charged too much? Read more

North America has very different expectations of equipment levels so "near identical" they certainly aren't.

When Rover managed to sell the 800 series in North America, they built the base UK trim with LHD and put Sterling top of the range badges on....

When I walk through the town centre I notice that some pedestrians tend to stop suddenly in the middle of the pavement, others will walk two or three abreast on narrow pavements, some will step blindly into the road or out of shops while gossiping on mobile phones. Then there are those who trundle along at 1mph in the centre of the path, holding a conversation with their friend, oblivious to anyone trying to pass.

There are those who are aware of people around them and make progress with due consideration. Does it seem likely that habits on foot may well be carried over to the way people drive?... Read more

Nice one Andrew T, I was wondering about a comment myself. Well done.

People do seem to lack a certain spacial awareness no matter whether driving, walking cycling. Sometimes it has a lot to do with personal sound systems welded to their ears!!! The only difference is, when walking they do not mind being overtaken and will sometimes hold doors open etc in a generally nice way. However try the same manouvres when driving and people go balistic....
