Skoda Octavia Estate 2l TDI PD Elegance '05 - Knocking in all gears, goes if clutch depressed. - birdlife

Does anyone know what this is? Driving home yesterday a knocking noise suddenly started up, sounding as though it's possibly coming from the middle of the car and this knocking was in all gears and whether in a straight line or going round corners, and the only way it went silent was if the clutch was depressed.
The knocking sped up as the speed increased. Any ideas please?!

It sounds to me that ypor DMF might be on the way out.

If you travel along at say a steady 40mph in 3rd then change to top gear at the same speed, does the knocking frequency reduce.

If so it eliminates driveshafts & wheels/tyres.

Thanks for reply, dieselnut. Had to look up DMF - dual mass flywheel, yeah? Will try your suggestion out in few hours time and report back. Thanks,

No that made no difference.
Seems to need about 5mins before heat registers on thermostat in car then the noise starts up when driving, through all the gears. As the noise goes when clutch depressed, and pressure would be off the cv joint if clutch disengaged, am wondering if it could be the cv?
