I recently had a car run into my car while parked. The insurance company may want to write it off. Once their engineer has inspected it will I have a choice over whether it is written off or not. I want to keep the option of having it repaired at my expense without going through the insurance Read more

Bought an slk cdi 2 years old with 16,500k on the clock. had the satrguard and becker map pilot. I asked for a service book but apparently it's all recorded on computer now. I chased up the history and found a record of only one service done at almost 16k and two years old. The main dealer I bought it from have verified this info and I'm in tomorrow to discuss. I'm not sure what will happen and am worried that the turbos could be worn and of course the engine could have some unseen wear, it runs ok but nevertheless! any thoughts? Read more

Our car, an S-Max 2L petrol (2009), seems to have developed a fault but the garage’s diagnostics are far from clear.

About 2 months ago the engine warning light came on and the local Ford garage traced it back to the temperature sensor in the CAT. They could find no fault in the CAT itself, so one possibility was that the temperature sensor itself was faulty. They cleared the alarm and advised us to see how we got on. If the fault came back soon then they said they would suspect the CAT itself. The car has been driving fine since then though now 2 months later the engine warning light re-appeared.... Read more

Error code P0420 indicates that the engine control system has identified a catalyst that is working inefficiently. This will not cause any starting or running issues and is also unlikely to be a problem on the emission test for the mot. Even the engine fault light illuminated is not an mot fail (at the moment).Starting with the clutch depressed reduces drag on engine,I always use this method.I would strongly suggest that the battery be checked, and if it is the original from new,get it replaced.

Hello,

The usual dilemma, roughly 10000 miles a year but in a largish car where the best petrol engine is a 1.2 tce compared to a 1.5 dci. Apparently both have similar torque pattterns but instinctively feel the diesal would cope better........... Read more

re Dacia's and rust... its the cars made in India which are the problem. Cars coming from Romania are no worse than any other make. Indian made is 1st model Dusters, new model Dusters are coming from Romania (Dacia UK changed factory due to bad experience with the Indian production). Other Dacia's in UK have been coming form Romania anyways.

The front is improved at long last. The squat sporty rear was one of the best. Now it's confused looking as a result of an attempt to look elegant. Read more

Don't like the look from the front. It looks too similar to other BMW models. Same with the rear.
