I've been having issues with my VW fox ever since I bought it from a 2nd hand dealer 6 months ago. I've been backwards and forwards between them and the VW garage trying to get to the bottom of the issue, ending with them trying to blame me because I had a new stereo installed (the issues started before the stereo was installed and I have a report from the installer stating the wiring is fine and it’s all been done to spec). I was informed by said dealer that I had no legal right to a refund, so I want to pursue a claim in the small claims court.
The car went back to the VW garage today to get a report from them that I could file with my claim as proof that the car was faulty, but they have informed me they aren't willing to provide anything. The issue is too complex and they can't speculate for legal reasons. They would need to start stripping the engine and charge by the hour.... Read more
Hi Rob,
Thanks for the response....
RE heated windscreen...I purchased my car 2 months ago. after driving the car for a couple of weeks in daylight I then drove at night. To my horror the light from oncoming cars, traffic lights and street lights were breaking up into pixels which distorted the view from my windscreen so much that I cannot drive safely at night. I complained to Ford who said they could not replace the heated windscreen but they would put a plain glass screen in, which would cost me £400 plus. One of the reasons I bought the car was because of the heated windscreen as many cars that I had purchased in the past had also.I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has had the same experience. Fordfan, I wouldn't be so rude as to suggest that your eyesight is at fault - but do you wear glasses? It's possible that the wires in the screen may react with certain types of lenses, depending on your prescription.
But a useful tip results from this thread - if you are thinking of buying a car with a heated windscreen, you should ideally try it at night. That might be more easily said than done....
As may be obvious from my user name, I am a parish priest, and after taking a funeral for a congregation member last year, I recently heard that he has left his mobility scooter to the church.
There is a whole other tale to tell about collecting the scooter (myself and the solicitor spent an hour looking round his house for the 'ignition' key, couldnt find it, so I had to push it back to my church!), but my main reason for posting was discovering that the scooter has a V5C registration certificate! ... Hi, What's the best way to stop door locks freezing besides covering ? Is it worth fitting mudguards to modern cars or would drilling holes for fitting potentially cause more damage? Thanks. Read more
The best way of dealing with frozen door locks is to put the key in your pocket for 10 minutes before use - you'd be surprised how that warmth will make a difference.
Or ... you used to be able to get small cans of de-icer, which had a nozzle suitable for doorlocks. No idea if you still can....
This is what happens when you drive your Lamborghini at over 200 mph on a public road., as filmed by the passenger, who was damn nearly killed.
The video doesn't actually show the cause of the crash- the car jumps at about 1.28 and then goes out of control-tyre failure? ran over debris on the road?
Looks to me like the section of road had a couple of sharpish dips or bumps of the type that will be familiar to anyone who uses the M62 between the M60 and M6 junctions. Those are bad enough in a saloon car at 70mph, let alone at 3x that speed in a sports car....
As one problem gets sorted another one starts it seems.
The heater in my Kangoo never blows hot, only barely warm. Got the van last summer so never really needed it up to now and don't know if its always been like it or not. Bottom pipe going through the bulkhead to the matrix seems hot but the top is cold. Does a heater matrix get blocked on a modern vehicle? There is a plug that connects to what looks like the thermostat housing. Is there an electric valve that might be faulty? It's mighty cold in there and difficult to demist the windows at the moment :(... Read more
Somewhere there will be a valve of sorts, damn shame it's not a good old cable type, assuming you can't find the fault it should be possible to by pass this valve (hope it's not part of the matrix) for the winter at least and plug the water supply in directly.

Sounds like a slipping belt as mentioned.
