2003 VW Golf 2.0GTi - Stalling in reverse - Mechtrainer

I have a VW Golf that keeps stalling everytime I put it into reverse. Tried a code read and it keeps coming up with communication error. Please help

Do the reversing lights work?

If not, there may be a short..

The reversing lights come on ok, as soon as you release the clutch it stalls. Had 3 people try to drive it thinking it was me but they all had the same problem.
