Kangoo Diesel 1.9 2001/Y - Heater blowing almost cold air - stuartl

As one problem gets sorted another one starts it seems.

The heater in my Kangoo never blows hot, only barely warm. Got the van last summer so never really needed it up to now and don't know if its always been like it or not. Bottom pipe going through the bulkhead to the matrix seems hot but the top is cold. Does a heater matrix get blocked on a modern vehicle? There is a plug that connects to what looks like the thermostat housing. Is there an electric valve that might be faulty? It's mighty cold in there and difficult to demist the windows at the moment :(

Thanks as always in anticipation of any advice :)

Does it have a pollen filter, is it chock full of leaves and muck.

Check the flow through the heater hoses, two should pass through the bulkead into the heater matrix, one inlet one out, disconnecting them very briefly one after the other and see what the flow is like, should be full flwo in and out if heater valve open fully.

Sounds like there is a thermostat fitted with rad temps.

Hopefully a simple cable operated valve controls the flow, not some climate control cobblers, tracing the heater temp cable should find that, possible the cable isn't opening the valve.

Heater matrix shouldn't block unless some clot has been chucking rad weld type muck into the coolant willy nilly, usually a nasty and very invloved job to replace.

Could be an air lock. Is there a bleeding procedure?

I'm an idiot, somehow i read the OP as radiator top hose cold but bottom hot.

Possible heater valve cable (assuming it is cable) has come adrift.

Thanks for replies gents. I cant seem to see any way of bleeding the system at the highest point.

Also the temp knob inside the vehicle appears to be electrically operated rather than a good old bicycle brake cable type set up (!) so I assume this must control some sort of valve that diverts the water through the matrix although as bottom hose appears to be hot where it enters the bulkhead this tends to suggest that the valve that lets the hot water through the matrix is inside the vehicle rather than under the bonnet or am I missing the point completely?!

Cheers

Stuart

Somewhere there will be a valve of sorts, damn shame it's not a good old cable type, assuming you can't find the fault it should be possible to by pass this valve (hope it's not part of the matrix) for the winter at least and plug the water supply in directly.
