Hi, Car has cut out and lost power on motorway twice in a 2 months, Citroen diagnose the fuel filter as the problem, and are quoting £162 + VAT for the part.
Is that a reasonable price for a filter?

My daughter has a 59 reg i10 fitted with alloy wheels which are not looking too good so I was considering either having them refurbished (assumiing you can) or buying new ones.
I don't know much about alloys but for about £300 there seems to be a quite a choice available but apart from the wheel size what do I need to know and are any particular brands known for better quality than others - at around the price I mentioned?... Read more
If you go into a local independent bodyshop, you'll probably find that they'll refurb wheels for £50 a piece - cheaper than buying a new set.
You will also find secondhand sets of wheels on ebay, or guntree, etc. ...

Having never had one or any interest in Corsas I just had to click on this just on the slight chance it could be what I thought it might be. And it was. Innit?
My VRS already had budget Nexen shoes, puncture on ROS and bulging on RNS meant a new pair. I went for budget Lanvigators at £55 a corner as I couldn't really afford anything else at the moment.
Now the car oversteered at 30mph on one roundabout and at 25mph on another. Now im cr*pping myself. I understand new tyres need bedding in, but this seems excessive.
It has been less than 24hrs since I got them fitted. Do I have any scope to getting these returned? Read more
Could you tell us the name and location of this tyre fitter? I think he deserves some credit, and perhaps putting into the Good Garage Guide.

I'm new to this so please bear with me. My 2009 Mazda 3 came to a grinding halt last weekend. My local Mazda dealership has now quoted me £4423 to carry out the work.
I have had the car regularly serviced at my local Mazda dealership. Mazda and the dealership will only pay 10% as a goodwill gesture towards the costs. I've only had the car 23 months and it's still on finance.... Read more
I suspect that although this is a common engine used by many different makes of car, the fuel injection equipment & ECU manufacturer are probably not all the same.
Mazda seem to have had a problem with most of their diesels fitted with a DPF....
My Vectra has always been solid on motorway but now the steering is loose and hard to control above 80mph. It feels like your being blown about by the wind and fitting against it both left and right.
Wheel alignment was done 4 weeks ago.... Read more
Drive at less than 80mph ?
Seriously though, it could be tyre wear, tyre pressures incorrect, steering components worn ... or one of a few other possibilities. Only way to really tell is to get it up in the air, and someone who knows what they're doing to have a look....
My car a 02 reg Honda Civic 1.4 5door with a manual box has starting making a funny noise when pulling hard in 1st 2nd and 3rd gears once the car gets up and above 25 mph the noise seems to stop. Ive taken it to my local garage and he seems to think it could be the gearbox but he is not a 100%. Do they give problems or is there something else worth looking at first ?
Many thanks Pete Read more
Very likely to be the gearbox in trouble.Usually failed bearings,a very common fault on this model.
This car needs 2 x tyres.
I wish to have fitted Bridgestone Ecopia EP150 tyres size 185/55R16 87 H on the same axles despite the current tryes have a 83 load rating.... Read more
Yes, you can fit the higher load rating tyre.
Do note that the tyres might be a little bit louder in use, as they will probably have a slightly stiffer sidewall. However, this is likely to be marginal.
Hi,
I've currently got an e class 280 estate. When I bought the car I was motoring about 20'000 miles per year. I'm now only going about 10'000 at a push. I'm wanting to downsize but struggling to find a nice car as my new pride and joy.... Read more
Keep the E class if you like the drive and its reliable. Any change in vehicle doing less miles than you are doing isnt going to save you money due to depreciation. I have a customer at my garage who runs a 300TE (1990 model W124 he's had from new) with 250K on the clock as a daily driver and he loves it.
If you like the car stick a private plate on it forget the 180 day rule for a "new car" and enjoy it (180 days is how long a car is new for)...

Yeah, there's a Mann filter on there for around £40.
Its not a paper based filter that sits in a bowl, its a complete module.
