Problem solved.
Car started OK. Shows you can't trust a voltmeter!...
Hi, I have a 06 207 1.6 HDI which has developed an intermittent fault which seems to be getting worse, every so often if you lock the car and go back to it after a few minutes and try to unlock it nothing happens, lights don't flash and no noise made, if you use the key to get inside the car and try the ignition then that's totally dead too, the only solution that we have found that seems to work at the moment is to get out of the cat and try to lock/unlock the car, leave it for a few minutes then the indicators flash and the doors will either lock or unlock and alls back to normal. I'm hoping that the issue doesn't get to the point where it'll stop the car whilst driving! If anyone can suggest anything to check or what could be failing then I'd be very grateful. Also we're having an issue with blue smoke on start up from cold and lumpy idle for a few seconds/until rev'd so not sure it that'll be linked? or if anyone knows what that could be? Many thanks Paul Read more
It looks like the fault has returned with using the keys in the lock :( and the problem is getting worse, can take nearly up to an hour for it to reset now, no electrics on the car works apart from the radio, dash clocks etc don't work and hazards work but nothing on the instrument cluster :(
Anyone come accross anything like this?...

I had a diagnostic check, and it pointed to the indicator stalk or somewhere near. I checked the stalk and found the indicator contacts L/R and GND. I found a slight resistance on the 'L' connector. I stripped the Stalk cleaned it with circuit cleaner and hey presto, fixed. Camerart.
Noticed passenger door lock on her 107 was not flush with bodywork today. On closer inspection someone has tried to open the door with an implement more likely a screwdriver.
We don't know where or when it was done as she uses central locking on a remote key.
The key will not enter the barrel manually so basically knackered.
What I want to know is, can a motor locksmith replace the lock without having to replace other locks or ignition? And the door is slightly dented around the key entry. Would it be better to have a body shop do the repair and get them to see to the lock?
Trouble is we don't want to go through her insurance as its her first car and first year driving, so affecting her no claims. What sort of cost would she be looking at?
Thanks in anticipation of any advice given. Read more
I'd do the same a Elec doc suggests, though i'd remove the door trim and seek to remove the lock, they're usually easy, straighten the door, splash of paint and a bit of anti rust squirty stuff inside if its got scratched, refit lock...you might need to mackle some form of retaining clip up as thats probably been damaged.

A relative of mine has recently had an eyesight test at the request of the DVLA. On going to Specsavers (the DVLA's designated optician) they failed the test but they were offered an immediate re-test albeit with a fee payable. They refused their kind offer and subsequently they lost their licence. If a person fails a test is there any point in re-testing, especially immediately? Surely Specsavers aren't going to take someone's money just to fail them again. If the re-test passes them, the result of the first test must be questionable.
Thinking about it maybe they just thought this was a sales opportunity.
A month previously my relative had their eyes tested at another well known High Street opticians and was specifically told their eyes were fine to continue driving. My relative went back there after learning their licence had been revoked. The optician there and then did a retest and said again their eyes were more than adequate to continue driving.
Needless to say both myself and my relative are pretty unhappy with Specsavers. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Read more
The visual fields program applicable to the DVLA is the Esterman.
Specsavers got the contract because they will carry out the test for less than other opticians....

Very difficult to give wiring colours on french cars as they generally adopt wiring number id.Are you sure all the door actuators are ok?If not,you will not be able to fit an add-on kit.
In the immortal words of Howard Stern, "Hey now." I just renewed my American Automobile Association membership, and was wondering how people liked their UK equivalent. Worthwhile? Helpful when you have a roadside breakdown? Just curious. Read more
I use DAS bought as a package with my insurance. £40 for full european breakdown cover. Used them twice over the years and each time it was the AA that turned up and fixed the problem.
