Update on problem with fiesta cutting out, turned out to be connector plug on mass air flow sensor. My mechanic pulled the plug off, blew into the connector plug, put it back on, problem solved. Maybe plug was not connected properly or maybe bit of crap in the plug, as I said , problem solved, happy days.

Last night I went to get in my car, turned the key in the lock and nothing happened. The key won't unlock the door so I now can't get in the car.. stupidly there's no lock on the passenger door.

It feels like something's gone because now when turning the key there is no resistance at all. The strange thing is the key will still lock the car, but won't unlock it. ... Read more

Very likely to be the paddle bar on the back of the lock barrel has broken.A common problem on Vw models. It may be possible to buy a repair kit ,usually around £12,or if not a new barrel for around £45.

I visited a local dealer to look at the new VW Passat B8 just arrived in the showrooms. It's a lovely car but why have VW made a very bad mistake in following the trend of making the rear seat base fixed so when the rear seat back folds down it does not fold flat ? The salesman seemed completely taken aback when I made this comment, but we then proceeded to check out a used 2014 B7 model on the forecourt. The rear seat base flips up, drops into the well behind the front seats, and the rear seat back folds down completely flat. This was the unique selling point for the (old) Passat. Very few cars have this feature. The Skoda Superb does (for now), but will the new version due later this year - perhaps this feature will be designed out by the VAG team ? The only reason I can see for the 'retrograde' design is the improvement to the location of the Isofix mounting points, which are now more accessible, but if Honda can continue to design rear seats which have a folding base, why can't VW. Not very clever. It also frustrates me because I put off ordering a new Passat until the B8 was available, and now I wish I had ordered a B7 - and no I can't buy one of these because It would be a factory order and not from pre-ordered dealer stock which are in the run-out. Hi everyone.

I have a fiesta 1.4tdci MY07.
Have changed the injector seals (all 4). Since then the turbo will not boost. I have checked the turbo itself and I is fine. Had a mighty vac on the waste gate and that's working fine too. All the vacuum pipes and intake pipes are fine. The four inlet manifold seals are in a good clean condition and located correctly. There are no fault codes. All the injectors have gone back in the same order they came out and it's running fine... Just won't boost. Please help if you can. Thanks.

Hi

My car's gears are fine in the morning but after about 30 mins of driving they go really stiff and it's very difficult to change gears. The clutch isn't slipping or anything, just that gear selection is very tricky. But when I leave it to cool down it's back to normal. It's a 2006 plate Fiesta 1.4 Style Climate ... Read more

Yes, a problem common to the Fiesta gearbox, and one which garages should know about. I put up with mine because I was too lazy to do anything about it and on a cold, wet day, the gearchange was OK. It was just warm, dry days when the gearchange would get really stiff, and we don't get many days like that. I'm pleased to say that after 200K miles, the gearchange is no longer stiff. It freed up after about 120K miles!

Cue debate...thoughts?

Which to avoid. Sainsbury's are currently offering the cheapest fuel however, would it pay to pay the extra and fill up at the likes of Shell / BP?... Read more

There won't be any war on here.

Of course, we would never ban any reasonable motoring topic, so if anyone wants to scintillate us with more thoughts on fuel additives, by all means start another thread....

I'm hoping someone can help me. I bought my Astra pre reg in August and feel the 20k between services is silly. The car is at 11k and 9 months old so its not due a service according to the schedule. I booked the car into the dealer for an oil and filter change as i want a change every 10-12 k as I plan on keeping the car long term.

no harm in doing your 1st year service early, just go to a different dealer.

Never heard such rubbish from a service department, they dont know what they are talking about....

I purchased a Qashqai 1.5dci '08 plate a couple of months ago with only 38k on the clock. Everything was fine until a couple of weeks when it started to jerk quite noticably. Initially, I thought it may be down to the cold snap, but the problem is still present. I have noted that my mpg has also started to drop. It is almost like driving with oval tyres on(I have checked them and they are fine)!!! Any suggestions what the problem could be? Read more
